Wellington Central hotels & places to stay

Just a short walk from the waterfront and convenient to the bars and restaurants in central Wellington, this multi-storey backpackers had more of an industrial/ backpacker-factory feel than I'd have preferred, but it was fine for a couple of nights. WiFi throughout is only on a paid basis and the breakfast was overpriced. Desk staff were quite helpful though was twice sent in the wrong direction in my search for a power adapter -- thumbs up for trying, but if you don't know, better to say you don't know! Was in a six bed dorm, moderate size with three bunkbeds. Little to complain about -- clean and mattress was good. Room was on sixth floor with pretty good views. Bathrooms were likewise clean and well kept. Would I stay again? At a pinch, if I had to, but would probably try somewhere else first.

Stayed here for a day during my weekend trip to Wellington, a few months back and had a pleasant stay overall. Though I got there before the check-in time, the front desk executive was understanding of my situation and provided me a room which was being cleaned by housekeeping. They did a $10 charge on my credit card during check-in which was eventually reversed during check-out. The housekeeping staff were very polite and did a good job of getting the room ready. There was no air-con in the room but they provided a fan which seemed sufficient. The area around the hotel seemed safe at night. The positives of this hotel are its location and proximity to restaurants. On the whole, this property exceeded my expectations and is suitable for those looking for a stay at a central location in Wellington.

We had a fantastic stay at the Bolton Hotel in Wellington and wished we had been able to stay longer. I would definitely recommend this hotel , especially to families with children as the rooms were big with a large bedroom which had a separate bathroom, living area, and kitchen. The kitchen was fully equipped and even had a washer/dryer machine! The hotel was centrally located and we were able to leave our car in 'valet parking' at the hotel and walk around Wellington for the 2 days we were there. Everything that we wanted to do was within walking distance (the cable car up to the botanical gardens - which incidentally has a fantastic children's adventure playground area; the waterfront area with bars and cafes; the Te Papa museum; Lambton Quarter shopping area). The staff at the hotel were very friendly and happy to offer advice about things to do etc. We ate in the restaurant at the hotel on our first night and although they did not have a children's menu, the chef was able to whip up a more child-friendly meal for our children.

Loved this hotel! It was a good size with everything that we needed for a night. The parking was the only problem as the car park was full so we had to park across the road, costing us $38 overnight. The location is perfect with only a short walk to the main shopping and food. Also only 1GB of WiFi is provided, unlimited WiFi is $10. Overall it was a good stay and we would stay again.

We were a group of 8 people ( 3 kids and 5 adults). And it meet out needs quite comfortably. Specially rooms with two bathroom were a bonus. The staff ( Night Manager Mr. Bharat) was very accommodating and helpful. Sharing his insight about the city based on our unique requirement was very much appreciated by evey one in our group. The location is super nice...and closer to all the attractions in Wellington. Plenty of food joints when a person leaves the hotel. Pomodoro Pizza and Punjab House were our selection. Security and Safety is super nice and comfortable car parking close to hotel.

the kingbed room was very large with plenty of space. the bathroom was generously supplied with soaps and shampoos each day. there was an iron and ironing board, which is not always provided in a 31/2 star hotel. the fridge is small but adequate. the location is central wellington and one block away from the best shopping street in wellington (lambton quay). the restaurant is good,though not cheap. the one complaint i would have with the room was that it lacked any drawers.

Stayed for 2 nights for business trip in a Studio apartment. The room is specious. Has all facilities. Washing machine and the dryer are the best! Caroline was really helpful friendly. I would highly recommend this property for either business trip or travelling with family. Just perfect! Location? In the middle of City. Guest will have access to the gym down the road plus shortcut walk through Lambton Quay St using the elevator of the building opposite (with your hotel key's swipe).

InterContinental Wellington is wonderful first class hotel which has everything you would expect from InterContinental. All my needs and expectations were met with high class standards. On my mind, this is the best hotel in Wellington now. Wonderful job of all staff members. Special thanks for everyone involved for making my daughter’s birthday celebration unforgettable!

I wasn't expecting much when booking this hostel at this price but at the end I was pleasantly surprised. It was not only cheap but centrally located, close to everything in the city, room was clean, bed was comfortable, free and fast wifi internet and the staff was superfriendly - they did a very late check-in for me and also luggage storage free of charge on departure. If I am ever back in Wellington, I will stay here again.

Everything was great - the room was really well equipped, the decor was nice, bed was huge and very comfy, it was spotlessly clean and the staff were nothing but smiling and helpful. It is very central but is tucked away up a small side street that is a bit of a pain to get to but it was very quiet, unlike any of the hotels in Cuba St (you've been warned!!). This is going to be my default hotel in Wellington from now on.... top class.

One of the best hostel experiences I have ever had. Very clean and comfortable, kitchen is well appointed, and the staff was terrific. I stayed both in a double room (1 night) and 6 person bunk (2 nights)- both were great, only complaint would be no lockers for personal items but I have found lack of lockers common in NZ. It is a good 20-30 min walk to downtown Wellington but its easy to catch a bus from the nearby station (5min walk + 5 min bus ride running every 2-5 mins) for $2. Don't be afraid to ask staff for recommendations, they are very helpful and honest.

We ended our trip to the North Island with five days in Wellington, staying five nights at the Capital View Motor Inn. When we were searching for accommodation in Wellington, we looked a variety of options. We were hoping to have three key things - parking, a kitchen (so we had the option of preparing meals if and when we wanted to), and something located in the city. We found all three at the Capital View Motor Inn. Many of the other options we'd short-listed would have meant compromising on one of these three, or paying significantly more. The Innkeeper, Mark, was a joy to speak with. His friendly and welcoming demeanour made us feel like we were at home. This is certainly one place we'd book again if we were to return to Wellington.

Old property that serves as a backpackers, but also has private rooms, some with ensuites, some with shared facilities that are more than adequate. Nothing flash but it was warm (centrally heated with old radiator type system throughout hotel giving consistent dry heat). Mattress was reasonably new and comfortable, with clean linen. Double room was clean and spacious with relatively sparse old, solid furnishings, but perfectly suitable for a cheap overnight stay before/after a late afternoon flight, ferry, train or coach and when an early morning transfer is required. Handy to Bluebridge Ferry terminal and across the road from the central Wellington Railway Station, with an airport bus stop and Intercity bus stop within a 3 minute walk. Not really a destination hotel, and by no means of a high standard, but comfortable, straightforward and friendly. The price is the winner here.

This hostel is located right in the heart of Wellington. It gives it a great urban feel, and is centrally located near all the attractions and, for ease of access, many stores. The facility offers many amenities such as a café, kitchen, all the areas that you would expect from a hostel. It was also very clean and tidy. I stayed in a private room, as that was all they had from booking last minute, but even the private room was very comfy and cozy. The staff was very friendly and was kind to note the features as this was my first time staying with them. Overall, it was worth the value. If I was staying a longer stay in Wellington, I would’ve definitely booked a traditional shared room (I love meeting new people).

Initailly chose this as it was the cheapest one. Ive read some reviews about how awful it is because its dirty, its not a 5 star hotel but it is a nice place to stay. Its a bit dirty in the way that hostels can be sometimes. Most of the dirt I saw was from guests not wiping down the table after they used it ans dirty dishes in the sink. The staff are super helpful, the airline lost my luagge and the staff basically helped me anyway they could, lent me a charger, lent me a towel and didnt charge me and even in a 12 bed dorm you can actually sleep!! Loads of space to chill The only annoying downside, but after being in another hostel I think may be the norm, is there is no individual locker in the room which means you either have to go to reception everytime you want ro pull something out from there storage or you have to trust that no one in your dorm has sticky fingers. My flight out of NZ is from Wellington, I will be staying here again.

this hotel is centrally located in the heart of cuba street, where one you walk outside you are in the heart of the city centre, very close to buses, cafes, restaurants, the culture of cuba st. and people everywhere!. the hotel has everything you need and in my opinion is one of the most affordable, comfortable hotels in wellington. i would recommend this to all types of travellers.

we had a great time during our 2 day stay, this place was easy to find after we turned of the freeway , we checked in and was shown straight to the room , a little gem ,the king suite , a very spacious big room but a down fall was the small T V , but we did not go there just to watch movies , The king suite is away from the pub , above a vacant shop so was quieter , For us (King Suite) ,there was a front door leading up stairs to the entry door to our room , Now the place is a "PUB" , the actual web site really needs to be redone , it looked a run done pub from the photos but on entry the place is a big open area ,bar in the middle with a restaurant to the back ,smoking out the side , clean with plenty of seating and sport channel TV's , we had plenty of help from Cameron and Karen ( hope spelt correct ) any thing we asked for beer ,wine ,food or local enquiry's, i.e. maps, walks etc. they help out , with the local beer on tap , its a different taste to home ,I as allowed the taste testing before choosing a pint which was great , Now the Shepherds Arms is roughly a 25 min walk to the Westpac Stadium which is why it was chosen the location or if your keen a 20 min walk through the Botanical gardens to the Wellington Tram which takes you down the hill into downtown Wellington , this was a great stay for an old building
