Traveler impressions of Koh Samet
Koh Samet is a really nice place for a family, lovers& tralvelers to spend holidays! There is no too much people ,too much shopping ,just sunshining, beach, and good food.
..,you may have a wonderful resting and staying there, the sand is white and clean, sea water is blue !We shall go there again next year!
The water and beaches are very clean with soft white sand. This Island is a quite relaxation Island which is away from the normal loud experiences on the mainland.
Want an enjoyable stay? Stay at resort at Ao Prao for $500 per night or suffer. Don't go if you have a disablility
Nice island near Pattaya, very easy to go there, can take local bus than ferry, inside renting motorbike, nice relaxing.
Koh Samet is blessed by wonderful beaches and not much else. Generally the the accomodation is substandard and there is price gouging for tourists.
Its a real shame one cannot take a car to get around as you are at mercy to the over charging taxi drivers and motor bike renters. We stayed at two resorts the Tonsak and Samet Ville Resort neither of which I would recommend particulalrly the Samet Ville Resort. As I said great bechaes but not much else and a real hassel to get around. Even the speed boat fromt the resort to the pier was hairy. Well that's another story.......not customer or tourist friendly.
Koh samed is really a big island For me, the sea is not very clear, if you want to dive, you have to go far away, other sports is just so so.
Nightlife is what I recommend, it's interesting.
I recommend to go to Koh Samet in Low Season(water clean, sand white and clean), and in high season a lot of people and many speed boats / water not so clean and staff so tired, not so friendly like in Low Season.
I think Koh Samet would be best enjoyed in a group of close friends because the population limits their interaction with foreigners to "commercial-transactions only!"
It's a lovely little island around 3 hours from Bangkok, an ideal weekend getaway place for anyone. Lovely, crystal clear blue sea, many beaches to choose from and still nice and small.
becareful , don't go to the agency who people sell ticket and hotel , it's a trap . they rip off you, you can get the island for 30 bath with the big boat and 50 bath with the speed boat, just go and find the man who drive the boat.
the agency try to rip off people , degusting the big bot cost maximum 50 bath in the pier.
this is a retreat for people who wants to have a getaway from the bustling city . you can sit by the beach and drink to content .
watch fire shows by the beach at night , star gaze . the food seafood are also delicious . they have the seafood bigger in size than usual . and still tasty . there's quite a number of water sport during the day too .
apart from beaches, the island is keept very bad, rubbish everywhere, the center has an area very smelly and unsane, there would be the possibility to perform some sport activities, unfortunately the small forest in the center have no access, no walk side intricate trees dont allow any walk, the restaurants, the personnel of hotels, are not friendly as the rest of thailand, never smiles it seems that, they are upsets to have tourist, wonderfull place kept very bad and managed worse
A Island that you should walk around and explore! Friendly people and don't be shy to ask if in doubt!! Water activities like water ski, boat parachute banana bout are fun too! Food are great and fresh!
There's something for almost everyone here, but if you want to mainly relax, then this is the island for you.
A choice of personal transport such as rented motorbikes and bicycles are available, and one can also simply walk almost everywhere. I found quiet areas, as well as more lively ones. The beaches are great to go! The nightlife is excellent for the variety of music, drinks, and people you meet. Some of the food is good too.
Highlights, be prepared to walk to hotel, rent a motorbike or pay 1500 baht for a 1 km ride in the bead of a pickup with no shade.
The shopping is a 7/11, food is bad everywhere, everything is way overpriced. I do not mind it being expensive, Phuket is expensive, but at least the food is good and the hotels are nice. Samet is just a rip off, avoid it. Nothing to do but wade in the water. Go to Rayong and stay at the beach.
I find the place safer than I have thought it would be. The beaches are still nice and the people are lovely.
You can find decent food on this island. Like other islands things are more expensive here.
Well, there are many bays in Koh Samet but the most peacful bay is Wai(in my opinion).Wai bay is a national park around with natures.
I have been there 2 times but the latest time I think there are more people visit here than before. If you like peaceful place and want to relax,I suggest this bay.In case of spending night life,I suggest Sai Keaw beach or Wong Duen bay because those places are around with many nice restaurants and bars and many people that makes you want to stroll on the beach at night. If you want to watch the beautiful sunset,I suggest Lung Dam bay(the best scenery point in Koh Samet) and you can take pictures there. All of those places I mentioned, you can visit there by taxi or motorcycle or bicycle.By the way,I think Koh Samet is a nice place to visit if you don't have time much in Thailand because it takes time only 2.40 hours from BKK by van but 4 hours by bus.
I first visited Samet in 1996, it was a beautiful untouched island. Today it resembles a rubbish tip, a fly tipper paradise.
The locals appear to be very depressed and far from happy. My best advice if you are traveling to Samet, stay in the Pavilion hotel, it's spotless and is located on a clean beach.
Not easy to travel to but worth the trip. Not as touristy as Phuket which is a huge plus point. You get beaches that are nice and not so crowded.
Rent a scooter to get around the island. The best beaches are furthest away, down south or west away from the party areas.
Pretty much runs on tourism so a lot of party goers. From north to south it'll only take 30min
Not very pleasant stay. Trash everywhere. "Public transport" with song keaw pickup truck is a rip-off.
All seems to be a cartel dictating prices.
The road network has improved enormously in the last year so the trips between the popular beaches only takes a few mins Although I have visited Koh Samet now 3 times , this was my first shopping visit to the town .
Ok by day , but not sure about night time ?
Very busy and lots of jet skies and people selling stuff. Water not the cleanest but OK. Great shame as I stayed here 10 years ago and it was wonderful.
If you like me are returning after a long gap don't expect Samet to be the same, it isn't.
Great hideaway from Bangkok. Suites great just for weekend or for longer vacation. Great beaches with clean water.
Excellent beach restaurants with good food. Definately will come back once again.
This is very nice place to stay and depend on which beach do you want to spend time, we stayed in Ao Wongdrean that very romantic and relax place, no crazy party.
Good and chill out with friendly people
Real relax beach holiday not far away from Bangkok, and couple of beaches for you to stay that match your need, clean and clear sea water and white sand to step on
Koh Samet has a lot to offer almost anyone. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway from bustling Bangkok, you can find that on Koh Samet.
If you are looking for a wild time at a disco until the wee hours, you can find that too. Rent a motorbike and explore the entire island in about three hours. Go parasailing over clear blue waters, lay out on the beach and only get up to take a quick swim to cool off. Koh Samet offers just about everything. I highly recommend a visit here when in Thailand. It's easy to get to from Bangkok, only a three-hour bus ride and then a 20-minute high speed boat ride to the island.
Samet is a tiny little island, just 2hrs South of Bangkok. People go there for the sun, the beach and amazing night life.

I enjoy to stay here for few days with friends with this cleanliness hotel and friendly staff.
The beachfront pool villa is amazing.
Stayed 4 night with the family and everyone is happy with the hotel.
The best addition was beach towels for you to borrow that are separate from the regular bath towel in the room.
Very friendly environment, Nice bungalows directly at the beach.
