“Strategic, Historic 5-Star Base in KL with Great Malaysian Hospitality”
We stayed at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur for 6 nights and it turned out to be an excellent base for exploring KL. The location at Chow Kit is extremely strategic. The hotel is directly connected to World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur and sits opposite Sunway Putra Mall, with a skybridge linking you to the station. Chow Kit monorail station is about a 10-minute walk away. This made it very easy to get around the city using LRT/MRT/monorail instead of being stuck in traffic. The surrounding area is full of food options: local Malay, Chinese-Malay, Indian, nasi kandar, Bengali, tom yum (Thai) and western fast food – all within easy walking distance. There are also small grocery shops, including a 7-Eleven roughly 10 minutes’ walk away towards Chow Kit bus station. Banks and several money exchangers are close by as well, which was very convenient. We moved around KL a lot – Bukit Bintang, Masjid India, KL Sentral, etc. – and found that traffic in Grab/taxis was often heavy. In contrast, using the LRT/MRT/monorail from this location was much more efficient. In our experience, Seri Pacific is one of the best places to stay if you plan to commute to and from different parts of KL, because areas like Bukit Bintang and KL Sentral felt packed and jammed almost all the time. There was also a payment/booking issue on our side that really highlighted how good the hotel’s service is. Due to a credit card problem, we had to make two separate Agoda bookings: the first 3 nights in a Twin room and the next 3 nights in a Deluxe King. At check-in, we explained this to the staff. Instead of making us change rooms mid-stay, they kindly upgraded us and allowed us to stay in the Deluxe King room for the entire 6 nights, while still honouring the price we had already paid to Agoda. This was honestly amazing and immediately gave us a very positive impression. Our Deluxe King room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The amenities matched what we expect from a 5-star hotel. Housekeeping was available daily, and they vacuumed the carpeted floor regularly, which kept the room feeling fresh. Our bathroom had a bathtub and hot water was available 24/7. One of the highlights was the view from our room towards the Petronas Twin Towers – the sunrise was genuinely worth waking up for. Breakfast was good overall with a decent variety of options. The only downside is that there was little variation in the menu across the days, but given the range available, we really can’t complain too much. Service from the staff was a major strong point. Most of them are local Malay and Chinese, and their behaviour was consistently cordial, polite and helpful. I specifically remember the bellhop and Ms. Aila at reception who helped us check in; their attitude gave us a positive outlook right from the start, and we were not disappointed. On top of the upgrade, there was another incident that showed their professionalism: I accidentally dropped my room access card in a Grab car while taking my money bag out. We ended up losing two access cards and had to pay 60 RM for them. We later contacted Grab, the driver returned the cards the next day, and the hotel refunded the 60 RM without any fuss. Throughout this whole process, none of the staff showed any annoyance or disregard. I was apologetic, and they were kind enough to acknowledge that and handle everything calmly and professionally. The hotel itself is older (built in the late 80s and last renovated in the 90s), but it does not look or feel that old. It is very well maintained. Every day after around 11:30, we saw staff closing off small sections of the reception on the 3rd floor to clean the mosaic floor with a machine. The lobby is neatly decorated and looks quite regal. They clearly maintain the public areas regularly, which keeps the hotel very clean. The lobby on our floor was also clean, and we did not notice any foul smells.
