Sandakan City Center hotels & places to stay

It's far from the airport because it's in the city by the shore but easy to get transport through the grab app. We were allowed to check in early because the room was ready. It has what you expect of a hotel room, towels, soap, shampoo, tea and coffee. Came to Sandakan to rest and glad I picked Sandakan Hotel. They had fox movies so we stayed in the room during the day because the weather was too hot. Breakfast was RM12 per adult which is cheap and it was good. They have a coffee machine and a chef to cook you eggs the way you like them. Overall it was a very nice place to stay and the mall as well as eateries are within walking distance.

We actually stayed in both Deluxe room and Borneo wing superior room, and somehow I prefer Borneo wing superior room which is cheaper, as it was newer and cleaner. It's worth the price I think. The garden was quite nice. It's definitely the best hotel in Sandakan city. The only negative was that a group of guys was eating and drinking just in front of our room and they always talked to us. We found a bit unsecured and smelly but the staffs were helpless.

This is one of my favourite hotels in Sandakan. Cozy, quiet place, great value for money. It was better when it had an in-house restaurant and room service, but it still holds up its worth now. Grab is easy to hail from the hotel and there are several good restaurants nearby. The beds are very comfortable and can surpass several SDK hotels with higher rates. Very easy parking. Large bathroom. Always clean. Staff are always friendly no matter when you check in or check out. I ended up extending most of my stays here because I did not want to leave the bed! No view to speak of, but if you just want a quiet, comfortable place to spend the night in in Sandakan with great value, this is it. Just bear in mind it is located a little out of the way. I hope their restaurant re-opens sometime soon!

The main reason we’re staying there because their swimming pool: there are only 2 hotels in Sandakan city have the pool. Hmm.. The lobby location is a litlte bit confusing. And we did not get a tv remote and toilet mat (small towel). The food is very nice, they even have chicken curry on breakfast, so what’s so special about it, our bad first impression make us think probably the food is nahhh.. The hotel itself out of traffic compare the other famous hotel in city centre. Overall “okay lah”, not bad, we love it. Thank You!!!

I've stayed here twice now because the value for what you get is just too good to pass up. Pros: - cheap - facilities were great: air conditioning, comfy beds, private bathrooms with hot showers, tv and fridge - great restaurant with cheap food in the lobby - very friendly staff Cons: - it's a bit out of the way, about a 15 minute walk to central Sandakan - not much to do around the hotel, however there is a night market about 10 minutes away I'd recommend this place to any type of traveller looking for cheap accommodation that has everything you could want from a hotel.

We were so glad we chose to stay at this backpackers. We were welcomed with huge smiles. The rooms and bathrooms were really clean. We booked our kinabatangan river tour through them as they have their own tour office (Borneo Sandakan Tours) and when comparing prices with other travellers it seems we got the best deal! Would definitely recommend you book this tour through them we had the time of our lives. They looked after our bags while we were away and we booked in again when we returned from our 3day river tour. The breakfast was nice. It is in a great location right on the main street of sandakan, which is a quiet town so there is little noise.

We booked this hotel at a very good rate in my opinion, RM67 per night. Room is very basic but clean enough. Toilet is not great but reasonable, ants were visible. Our double size bed was quite comfortable, sheets and pillows seems clean, although I woke up with itchy bites on my legs the next morning - can’t say for sure it is from the bed or room. The reception was friendly and helpful. Location is by the road facing a temple nearby, quiet, about 5-10 minutes to town or jetty, we got around by Grab taxi easily for very cheap rate to town, rm5. Overall, if you want to save money and still have a reasonable room to stay, I would recommend Lady anne.

we reached sandakan at 1 am and all the hotel was fully booked. it was a tiring journey and at last we sleep inside the car. early morning i manage to book this hotel through agoda. after get my confirmation we directly go to the hotel and the staff was really helpful to let us check in even its only 8am...the room was nice. i really apreciate what miracle agoda can give to us..

the hotel is actually inside a shophouse lot and its main entrance is located at the back...there's a cineplex,restaurant,bowling,market and pub nearby.this hotel good for young adventurous couple only...its a great hotel that fit its cheap price and with basic amenities and a great starting point to discover Sandakan..try go to Buli Sim Sim seafood because its very cheap and delicious..also try go to Sepilok Orang Utan Center which is quite far.if go to sepilok,better stay at sepilok jungle resort hotel which is the same price.

the staff was friendly and the location central to everything you'd like to do in sandakan. the hotel itself isn't great. it's a second floor walk up, quite dirty and water in the shower that did not stay hot long enough to get clean. there were rats running about the common area in the evening. the breakfast included is actually a toaster and a loaf of bread with a jar of jam. there is hot coffee and tea around the clock. the ac worked great.

We travelled as a group and required a place that sleeps 3 persons which is why we choose the Sea View Sandakan Budget & Backpackers Hotel. I liked the place a lot, it started with the welcome drink and tasty snakes which is very unusual for an budget hotel. The room was clean and had a window that offered some sea view which I liked a lot. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a breakfast included, they served pancakes and coffee or tea which is unusual for this type of hotel. The hotel manager was also very friendly and very helpful to give tips on what to do in Sandakan and the surroundings. She were able to provide some great tours too that allowed us to see wild pygmy elephants and other wildlife. Even the food in the attached restaurant was outstanding and had some unique options that can't be found in any other restaurant in town. All in all it was a fantastic experience and the basic but clean rooms were comfortable and a good value for the money. Therefore, if you look for a budget hotel with a clean and friendly atmosphere do not look further.

they allow early check-in as we are travelling with a baby which is very considerate. The size of the room is small but most importantly its clean & the furniture is still pretty new. Location is just a few minutes drive to the main town as its is located in between the old town and the rest of the attractions. We rented a car for easy & leisure sight seeing in Sandakan. The food are great & cheap at coffee shop and "pasar" (market). Seafood are plenty with a very reasonable price.
