Colombo District hotels & places to stay

We were very bluffed by the amazing view we got from our room and from the rooftop bar. I suspect this view will not last as another skyscraper is in progress of building just next to it. The hotel deco is a little bit too "red" and the staff said they are aiming for "funky" look. It is refreshing to have a very modern hotel in Colombo but I am a bit sceptic that it might go out of style and I would recommend that they constantly improve their deco. Regarding the breakfast, it was very good but nothing social from any other hotels apart from a good coffee machine in the breakfast hall, where hotels only serve filtered coffee. I thought it was great as good coffee is hard to find in Colombo. We were very lucky as the hotel just opened and the rooms were soooo comfortable. Better than many five star hotels in Colombo that are unfortunately a bit dated. The staff was very friendly and asking for feedbacks as they just opened and I found that was a very good touch and showing how much they want to improve. I was a bit disappointed in the rooftop bar, the place is amazing but the service was very bad, we had to wait a long time for our drinks to be served, we ordered some nibbles that took a long time and that we're very cold and not tasty at all. Imagine fried pepper and salt calamari ee completely cold, it was awful! Overall, the hotel is excellent, the rooms are very comfortable, the staff in he hotel was friendly and the coffe from the machine in the breakfast hall was good. The negative points were a deco that is not the taste of everyone, a very bad rooftop bar service, especially when it's so expensive. Great great view of Colombo, the best I have ever seen.

Ramada Colombo Hotel deserves more than 4 stars. It's in a great location with extremely easy access to Tuks 24/7. The Lobby is beautiful, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast is delicious and the pool side is very relaxing. Overall Amazing hotel and an Amazing stay. Would definitely recommend it to anyone searching.

Excellent hotel with friendly staff, extremely comfortable rooms and a great selection of bars and restaurants. I am a regular visitor to Sri Lanka as I have family in Colombo and have stayed in pretty much all of the "better" Colombo hotels at some point in the last couple of years. I would thoroughly recommend The Kingsbury - It is a very versatile hotel appropriate for various types of travellers. The rooms have a luxurious but homely feel, with seriously comfortable beds and pillows! A drink in the Sky bar is a must even if you aren't a resident. The breakfast choice and quality was pretty much the best I've experienced in Sri Lanka. I would also recommend the foyer coffee shop - A bit crowded at times but the cakes and chocs are lovely and well priced for the quality. Overall, an excellent hotel that I will most definitely be returning to!

One of the pricier hotels in Colombo but well worth the extra $$ you pay. The deluxe room was neat and sufficiently spacious with a comfortable bed. The hotel even offers a nice choice of pillows which can be requested via room service. The inroom dining menu has a huge variety at decent prices. I've stayed in many hotels in Sri Lanka and the Cinnamon Grand was one of the best. Even though there are less costly options around the area this place is worth the extra money because the level of service and standards they maintain. Staff was friendly and attentive. Even the cleaners could speak decent English. It's a busy hotel in Colombo and is so for a reason. Only negative experience was we were told we can check in early even before 12pm. But after arriving at the hotel at around 1 - 1.30pm we were told that we have to wait for about 10 minutes till the room is fully cleaned and inspected because the hotel was on max capacity. This 10 minutes dragged on for about an hour of waiting. Luckily the hotel is connected to a shopping center where we spent most of that waiting time. And the staff seemed genuinely sorry for the delay. Overall I'd say its a great place to stay with your partner/family if you are after something special and willing to put in the extra $$.

I will strongly recommend OZO Colombo because of the facilities such as infinity pool with the view of the ocean, the well equipped gym, the nice restaurant and the amazing roof top bar! The location is abit off but the tuk tuk taxi are not that expensive, it takes about 280 rupees (10 mins) to reach the main area (fort station). Overall, the staff are really friendly and helpful too, I had a great stay there! The city is very decent and simple. Not as complicated as Bangkok but yet as lively as Kuala Lumpur. You can't really find very exciting party nightlight in Colombo but you can easily find high end roof top bars that serves drinks at a decent pricing. I tried The Fat Crab in Colombo which is only less than 1km away from the hostel, facing the ocean and I will greatly recommend everyone to try their crab dishes. Absolutely amazing! You can easily cover the main attractions of Colombo within half a day by a tuk tuk car (negotiate with the driver for a package price, I paid $4000 rupees for 4 attractions & a place for dinner which I paid myself) or a city tour bus. If you are looking for your usual shopping with brands like H&M, Topshop, Zara, LV, Prada... you can't hardly find any of these there.

Fairway Colombo is the most centrally located hotel I've stayed at in Colombo, right next to Dutch Hospital. It's also within walking distance to Galle Face Green and the Colombo Central Markets. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. I shall certainly stay here again in future. The only oddity I experienced during my stay was that I was assigned an accessible room despite not having requested one nor wanting one. In future, I'd recommend that the hotel staff confirm with the guest whether they require an accessible room at check-in regardless of whether the guest has a disability or not, rather than making assumptions about a guest's needs. And if an accessible room is the only type available then that should be communicated to the guest.

What a treat to stay at the Kingsbury Residences, lovely furnishings, quality beds and high end bedding and towelling and exceptional service. We had a very late flight and were allowed to stay well into the afternoon. It made the world of difference to our last day in Colombo. We'd definitely stay here again. Also, a big advantage to have a washing machine and full kitchen when traveling for any length of time.

The stay wad fantastic. We planned to stay 2 nights but stood 4 instead. We were upgraded to Pearl Grand next door, which is a 4 star hotel that was just officially opened this weekend by the Prime Minister. The pool on the rooftop is great though we had no need to use it. The staff was always caring and they gave us the same rate for the additional nights, great service. Concerning Sri Lankan circumstances the breakfast was good. Maybe one of the best hotels in Colombo, especially concerning value for money.

We travelled around Asia for 7 months and ended up our trip in this amazing historycal hotel in Colombo. very wide views to the Indian Ocean, very large rooms for reading, chilling, eating, or simply relaxing... The rooms are large, and in room all amenities needed for our stay are provided. The products for hair are superb, the mattress is superb, the big bed is so good ! So it's guaranteed that all nights will be very calm and tranquil :-) All restaurants serve excellent foods, with excellent options on the menus/a la carte. The 1864 is superbly managed and all foods are very tasty taking you to another world of happiness! All staff members re professional and very polite, they will do everything to meet our needs and to see us happy! Everyday you will be received with a big smile by every member of this fabulous hotel, so you will never regret to have chosen this magic place... Just come, step inside on this fabulous History Hotel, relax and...let it goes!!! Certainly you will be driven to a very safe port....in Colombo!!!

The stay at Ocean Edge Suites in Colombo is something we are going to remember. I had booked the suite through Agoda a few days earlier, and we had hired a private car with driver from Unawatuna to Colombo. We had problems finding the hotel, nobody seemed to know where it was and I knew for sure something wasn't as it should be, when the fourth person asked me: Do you have a reservation, madam? It turned out that the hotel hadn't opened yet, det opening was delayed due to delay with customs (our booking shouldn't have gone through). So all the things they needed, from linen to kitchen ware, was still in the harbour. They offered us to stay at another hotel, but I think I was a bit difficult and wanted to stay at Ocean Edge. And I must say they were fantastic. They gave us a suite that was made ready for one of the owner's parents (if I understood it correct). When we arrived they had just had the religious opening ceremony, and invited us to the common lunch they had after the ceremony (really good food). They didn't know what good they could do for us, the kitchen hadn't opened, so they brought us delicious tea every morning, snacks and drinks. Thank you, all of you, from the owner, general manager, to the room boys, EVERYBODY, you were so good to us (including us in the hotel family :-), and we didn't miss anything during our stay. It was really an experience being the first guests ever at your hotel. I hope we can come back some day. For some reason we did not receive our "Welcome Drinks" or the Fruit Basket in our Room. However, the Front Desk Staff were very friendly and helpful to us during our entire visit. Our Special request (on the Agoda site) for extra pillows and towels was not fulfilled either). We were able to get them after we arrived by calling housekeeping. Some reviews mentioned "musty smells " in the halls or rooms. We did not notice anything of the kind. The hotel was doing touch up painting on our floor and our room was fresh and clean. Breakfast buffet was great as before. Dinner service was poor as the staff was overwhelmed by serving those that were there to drink. Also we could easily hear the band up in our 5th floor room until the last song. Would we return to this hotel ? Yes we would. The location is fantastic, good rates and overall one of the best Hotels in Colombo. Tip: Easy walking distance from Fort Railway. We rode in from Negombo for 30 cents each ticket.

I stayed in the Mandarina for about a week whilst I was working in an office in Colombo. The hotel its self is very nice, the families and amenities are nice and the rooms are modern and clean. The rooftop pool is nice and a cool place for taking photos and relaxing. The buffet breakfast they provide is also good, with many different options from western to Sri Lankan foods. The staff are mildly friendly, although did sometimes give me a weird vibe - maybe because I am a young professional? Some of my local friends came to visit a few times and they did not question anything. I had a great stay here and would stay here again. Tip: Don't use the tuktuks outside the hotel, they tried to charge me 700 rupees, use the PickMe App my journey was only 300.

Travel back in time to the 20s in the great colonial style property in Colombo. I felt like a character from a Agatha Christie crime thriller and waited to see Hercule Poirot walking around at breakfast. The restaurant was certainly one of the highlights of the stay. I really loved this hotel and would check myself in there and avoid the centrally located Colombo hotels the next time I come to Colombo.

We booked a room at the Penthouse Above Sea on a whim and because it seemed good. Nothing that you read online will prepare you for how good it is, how spectacular the view is, how wonderfully warm and friendly Chitra is, how much thought has gone into conceptualising and designing the spaces and how blissfully you will sleep at night. Situated on the 15th and 16th Floors of the building, the Penthouse Above Sea takes the best of serviced rooms/apartments and 5-star hotels and offers up a unique experience. Some rooms have a sea view, and being that high up, you'll get a fantastic view of the coast for miles, and with that a view of Colombo city. That there is a train station right across the road means you can take a train trip down the coast if that's appealing to you, although it seemed like the trains are incredibly slow. The charm of the place though is Chitra. She is absolutely wonderful, with an amazingly warm and welcoming energy, something that she has infused into the entire space. She's always smiling and so are the staff. The rooms are spotless, well laid out and the mattress is just so comfortable and cozy, you'll fall asleep in seconds. Bathrooms are just as spotless, and I'm saying that even though my expectations of a bathroom are extremely high. Their food is simple yet excellent, with the option of eating with other guests at a large long table or at one of many cozy tables located on the balcony. All in all, I would happily stay here over and over, and definitely see myself going back to Colombo to stay here, and also see the city. You cannot go wrong if you book here. In fact I would encourage you to book here over a hotel, you won't be disappointed; I know I wasn't.

Good experience stay in Hilton Colombo Hotel. Helpful staff everywhere with good service. Enjoy out trip so much by staying in hilton colombo. Inside the room, everything are there with iron & iron board set for every room. Perfect! Room service & house keeping also efficiency and good work! We stayed in room , only we don't have any seaview as our friends' room. Recommend high floor and ocean side. Amazing view. Our room a bit too cold even we didn't turn on the air-con..

Paradise Road - Tintagel Colombo Hotel is a great boutique hotel, centrally located within easy reach of central Colombo by tuk tuk. You're made to feel instantly relaxed as soon as you enter the hotel and enjoy their homemade ginger ale! The facilities are great and if you have a late evening flight like we did you can use the hotel including pool and shower etc to freshen up before you go. It definitely felt like a home away from home with all the touches you would and wouldn't always expect - the staff go above and beyond to help with any request

A friendly, clean hotel in a prime location in Colombo. Large modern aircondtioned room with cable tv and very hot water for refreshing showers. A nice breakfast put on every day. I was suitably impressed with the value for money and have no hesitation in recommending the Ivy Inn Colombo to fellow travelers. I'll certainly be back. And don't forget the Clock Inn in Kandy. Owned by the same establishment and a great place to stay when visiting Kandy.

I travel to Colombo quite frequently, and normally stay at "standard" hotels. However, I decided to try an apartment for a change, and I was most pleasantly surprised to see that almost all the facilities that I use at hotels were available here too. Further, as I was travelling with family, it was most convenient to keep an eye on them, and yet leave them to their devices in this hotel. The security features were a bonus as we could allow the children to roam around with peace of mind. Supermarkets right next door meant we could pick up a few groceries and fix our own meals when we wanted to as there was a well equipped modern kitchen in the apartment. The view was breathtaking from the 30th floor, and the whole stay was most tranquil. It was most surprising for us to learn that when we wanted to extend our stay, and chose a 2 bedroom apartment, the hotel was quite happy to let us continue to stay in the 3 bedroom apartment we already were in...for the price of a 2 bedroom apartment! Bonus! And the 4 hour late checkout due to flight changes were much appreciated by the family! The courteousness of the staff must be mentioned. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any family who is looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay while they look around Colombo and do their shopping! This must be the best hotel experience I have had in Colombo.

Stayed in Colombo for less than 24 hour and decided to rest and relax in a hotel with full facilities for my need, i.e, decent size pool and well equipped gym. My room is spacious and clean. Bed is very comfortable too. Love the breakfast too. Everything I needed are provided in the hotel. My taxi arrived the hotel half an hour early and before I finished my tea and dessert. Saman at the concierge is nice to instruct my driver to park his taxi and wait for me to finish my meal. He also arranged my luggage to the car before I walk out of the hotel. Great service overall.

My wife and I stayed in a horrible hotel in Colombo 1 Hotel Grand Oriental, thinking that it would be a nice historical hotel near the main shopping sites, we were wrong. We moved to Zylan Villas and discovered a world of difference. It's easy to see why every guest at Zylan feels compelled to write gushing notes of praises in the hotel guest book, it's full of highly positive comments. The Villa is a beautifully designed boutique hotel with only 10 rooms but the decor and room with its quality amenities make our stay a comfortable, happy respite. The staff are obviously very well trained and ever so attentive and helpful. Plenty of initiative, and the best service you'll have in Colombo. Perfect stay. We will return!

We really enjoyed our stay! Having travelled by train from Galle, we got off at Mt. Lavinia and took a tuk tuk to the hotel which was far easier than going into central Colombo. On arrival, the staff were extremely friendly to the point where we ended up chatting to them for almost half an hour. The hotel was the cleanest we stayed in during our stay in Sri Lanka. The proximity to the beach is also a big plus and is worth visiting if you book here. We took the bus between the hotel and central Colombo and is an experience in itself, plus it only costs 20 rupees for the trip. Highly recommend booking here as it seems to be far greater value for money than the hotels closer to the city centre.

I stayed here for 5 days and 5 nights. The staff was very courteous, polite and co-operative. Special thanks to Guest Relations Executive, Ms. Priyangika, and Mr.Shenal, for providing good, useful inputs about the places to visit in Colombo and the most convenient modes of travel available. The Breakfast was very good and complimentary, the Hotel is equipped with all the modern amenities and caters to all kind of visitors, I.e. Solo travellers to large families. I would definitely recommend this Hotel for a cost-effective holiday in Colombo.

I liked the hotel and its location - away from the hassle and bustle of the main roads of Colombo 7. The rooftop pool is a must-see - go there for a drink in the late arvo to enjoy the sunset. There are a few good cafes nearby, as well as the National Museum and ODEL shopping mall (that I quite liked). The hotel staff were helpful but not always attentive (in my opinion). Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Jetwing Colombo Seven, and will pick it over older Colombo hotels (like Cinnamon Gardens, for example) any day!

I have made a reservation for my parents at the Ocean Colombo Hotel. Since it was my mothers birthday, I asked them if they can do something nice for her. Usually a hotel will put some chocolates and a card, but they went out all the way - they greeted her in the check in, decorated their room with balloons, put a cake in the room with her name on it - and not less than 4 staff members went up to sing her happy birthday. This was according to them, the best welcome they ever had. The room itself had large beds, a beautiful view and the breakfast was nice. The hotel was clean and located in a central location, so they could get anywhere they wanted quite easily. A hotel that knows how to make their guests feel special is worth everything. Thank you!
