Excellent ”
I had the best stay here for two weeks. I was with a toddler, and the service was excellent. The hotel is a bit older, but they are renovating rooms, my room was newly renovated. It has the best gym for a hotel I’ve seen, many locals use this gym for personal use. Great breakfast in the morning. Location is close to bus station and mall, a little far to the lake, but still walkable. The staff are the best! They helped me with so many things.

Nice hotel”
Nice hotel. If you would like to spend the time to take a rest, I recommend this place. Near the market and convenient to go the other place.

Great hotel in a North Thailand location”
Firstly, A resort type hotel it is not and doesn't pretend to be. Mainly used by business people and a popular venue for wedding celebrations etc. Pro,s Impeccable, friendly staff Well equipped rooms, cleaned daily to a high standard with free Wi-Fi. Good selection to chose from for breakfast- fruit, egg dishes made to your choice while you wait, bacon and local dishes available. Excellent coffee. Cons, Terrible shower, cold or boiling hot, impossible to get a comfortable balances, and the pool was closed.. Would I stay there again? Absolutely!!

Good Hotel, Excellent Staff”
Staff and food were excellent. Fitness center and pool were very nice, but only open 12PM - 9PM. Therefore, we could not workout in the mornings.

Nice hotel ”
A very good value hotel with great views from the higher floors over the huge lake. Breakfast was adequate: eggs or Thai stirfry or rice soup. Bread was limited to white slices and only cow’s milk available for coffee. Coffee, btw, was fine. Fruit limited also; just water melon. But I’ve had much worse in similar hotels. There was just one downside which would make us pause before staying again - a very hard bed! We like firm beds but this was ridiculous; felt like sleeping on the floor!

Super dirty pool”
The pool was so dirty we had to goto another place in town to swim. It was filled with dirt and mold so I doubt any chemicals are being used to ensure your safety swimming in that water. So disappointedd as we have stayed here before and this was the main reason we stayed here despite there now being so many brnad new hotels along the lake. It seems that this place isnt really much of a hotel anymore and more for just hosting local business lunches in the lobby. Spa is non functioning within the hotel as they have to call someone to come to the hotel if you want any services. Rooms were very clean and staff were extremely friendly. Wish the hotel would spend the money on maintaining the pool which is the primary reason to stay at this hotel in the hot climate rather than going to one of the other newer hotels.

Public Facilities not opening during Songkran”
Unfortunately the moment I visited Phayao during Songkran festival, the facilities rooms like GYM and pool were closed which I do not have the chance to use them at all. I've been spending the entire holiday of Songkran from 11-Apr night to 16-Apr and the facilities rooms were closed on 12-April until 15-April. I understand that period was the big day for Thailand, but I suggest it should still remain open the facilities rooms for the residents to use, else if really could not mange to open during holiday then should state it out on the Agoda.

Good”
A little bit dirty, cobwebs on the windows. Room is a bit dated and basic. Staff friendly. Location 10 mins walk to the lake front. Okay for a cheap one night stop but not a hotel I'd like to spend significant leisure time at.

filthy old hotel”
The kind of hotel that you don't want to touch the carpet or anything else for that matter. Very old, filthy, broken everything.

Clean rooms and a pool”
Booked 2 rooms some 3 hrs earlier at a great price on the 10th floor, so the views where good, easy to find and convenient for a stroll around Phayao. There is a pool and gym on level 4. Great service too when I requested a taxi to pick us up when a massive storm blew in and flooded the streets, arranged a pickup from 7Eleven down at the lake, 5 minutes later the hotels driver was there to take us back to the hotel safely.....highly recommend The Gateway.

Stay here. Perfect location.”
Staff helpful, friendly. Gave us room with stunning lake view as requested. Spacious room, delicious Thai breakfasts. Easy walk to shops, cafes, night eating street, unmissable sunsets at the lake. Big very clean pool, big gym, billiards room. Phayao people on the streets exceptionally friendly, welcoming.

Better than expected”
This hotel was a lifesaver. I left passports in the safe of the previous hotel in Chiang Khong. Didn't discover this until about 30 kms out of Phayao. The reception staff organised for the passports to be put on the next bus. They arrived safe & sound the next day - how's that for service!!! We had a Premier Suite Lake View room. It was as the name states. Great view of the lake & Phayao. Food was pretty ordinary but typical Thai style restaurant. Hotel mainly occupied by Thai tourists so it was the real thing. Would stay there again - no problem. And thanks to the staff!!!

Grand hotel in central Phayao ideal for conference”
We found this hotel to our liking as it is in a good location in Phayao. Busy all the time with confereces on the go. Parking is no problem and there is always someone to help guide you to a spot when things are getting full. The food is a mix of Thai country with a bit of western but mainly Thai. Large room cleaned well.

Friendly and helpful staff, central but aged hotel”
The hotel's central location just around the corner of the bus terminal is perfect if you arrive by bus, and is also perfect for taking a stroll to Phayao market and town centre, or even along the lakeside, everything is in walking distance. The room and bathroom were average, though you may perhaps expect a bit more from a place at this quite price segment during low (rainy) season. The staff were attentive and very helpful all the time. The staff's smiles and assistance compensate for the hotel's worn looks, so I am quite sure I will stay here again on my next trip to Phayao.

Serviceable, but getting tired”
Hardest bed and pillows I ever had at hotel, and I travel a lot. Just under the hardness of the industrial carpet on the concrete floor. If that is the local way, we Westerners should be forewarned. If you like really extra firm, then this will probably be fine. Beddings were clean. Staff friendly (with fair English skills) and attentive. The location was OK (just steps to town bus stop) with a nice view (if you are on the lake side) and lots of small town activities/local shopping nearby. But too far from the lake shore to walk there easily, especially in the heat. The Gateway is really showing its age (and it's not that old), and fortunately my room carpet was in better shape (obviously newer) than the hallways, which looked like 20+ years of wear and grime. There are signs of a better past, with private recreation & dining/party rooms, but no effort has been made to update anything visibly for many years. The pool was not properly maintained and while full of water, looked also full of green mold, rather than the nice blue tile color seen in the photos. I had a tight budget and this was the only option for a "Western" style hotel, I was told. Without a major make-over soon, I'll ask for other options next time.
