"This is one of the few four star hotel on Koh samed, there is one more in the very south on two in the upper left of the island. They are all owned by the same hotel chain. You pay premium prices for all hotels on this island, what you would normally pay for a four star hotel elsewhere in Thailand is what you pay for a three star hotel here. Sai kaew is a large hotel having many different types of rooms. If you are thinking of staying here make sure you select the newer areas close to reception and beach. They are more pricy but also much better. If not you might as well select for example don vouang, same quality of the huts but cheaper. The rooms we stayed in (premier) are modern, big and nice. We could easily fit two adults and two kids 13,4). The room has easy and close pool access. The hotel lies close to two beaches. From one of the beaches you can do snorkeling and this is usually where the snorkeling tours stop as well. The snorkeling is not as good as on Koh Lanta or phi phi but enjoyable. The other beach is probably the best beach on the island with white sand and about one kilometer long. You can do banana boats, hire ski jet and so on here as well. The service is good, for Koh samed the service is fantastic. The restaurant is nice with view over the sea, prices reasonable and breakfast is good with omelet station, a traditional four star breakfast. All in all the hotel is very nice and you will have a nice stay. But you probably could get a five star hotel in hua hin or Phuket for the same price. "

"Koh Samed is [still] largely undeveloped. Formerly the Island was the place Thais from Bangkok would spend a short inexpensive weekend. Now, mostly foreigners travel there. The only way to reach the island is by boat (fast-1,500B or slow-100B). The trip is pleasant and many speed boats will land you on the beach near your Hotel. Be prepared to pay a "Rural Road Fee" when arriving ranging from 20-40B for Thais and 100-200B for foreigners. You can still find a quiet stretch of beach or rock cliffs to watch the sun rise or set. The Hotel is situated on a beautiful white (clean) sandy beach. Sun chairs are limited due to gov't regulations to keep the beach uncluttered. Prices for tourists will be high, so be sure to not accept the first price offered. There are several large restaurants along the beach serving a large selection of dishes. Room rates vary, so be sure to check for specials. The only downside is when your room is surrounded by a loud tour group; yelling from room to room and slamming doors until 1:00 am! I recommend the smaller Thai cottages for a little quiet and solitude. Breakfast is about 4-star and offers many dishes to sample. The Hotel's beachside bar is fun and beanbag seating is under a large blue-illuminated tree with live music most evenings. Try the sunset boat tour (400B for 2.5 hours) for a wonderful view of the Island. If you are lucky, you can see the sun set without clouds. Snorkling near the Island is a little disappointing, but we were told there are tours that travel to better locations. We will definitely be back. "

"When we arrived at the resort we were a bit suprised at the modest check in facilities. However, it seems that the resort used to be previously a backpacker resort that has now built a new hotel building with modern and even luxurious rooms. The actual hotel building was "hidden" behind the lobby building. They've finished one building and are building two more, so when complete this place will be huge. The construction did not cause any inconvenience for us. It was one of the few places that had triple rooms available when we were booking and travelling as a couple with a single child we needed just that. Rooms were really quite cool, as in the pictures. The bathroom especially was nice and spacious. They have a really nice beach bar where you can also have your breakfast. The beach here or anywhere else near the Nadan pier is not that good for swimming. There are hordes of speedboats (especially in the weekend) that you need to avoid. In addition you'll smell the gasoline and exhaust gas almost all the time. For swimming do rent a scooter or take a songthaew taxi down to Ao Wai (best for swimming in Samet in my opinion) or to Ao Pakarang (Nimmanoradee Resort, best beach/beach bar for relaxing)."
