Wellington hotels & places to stay

it is the second time that we stay at the Rydges Wellington Hotel. as in the previous time, we were pleased with our room which was large, with a big window looking at the city. the staff were helpful and friendly. there was, as before, a charge of 30 nz dollars a day for the car valet parking, but since it is in the centre of town, it is understandable. the only drawback, -and this seems to be common for the hotels here- is the high cost if we would have wanted to use internet. (you are given 20 minutes free, though) we would not doubt to come back here.

The single room is basic but has everything you need for a simple short stay. Probably the best basic room offering for budget range, room includes tv, tiny fridge and basin with hot water for washing face and brushing teeth which is great. You won't get the setup for this price anywhere else in Wellington CBD, it's extremely central close to major bus stop. The shared bathroom on the second floor has a private bath which is lovely. The shared kitchen facilities also basic but great, can get a bit busy or crowded when the hostel is full but the option to dine in the restaurant with a 10% guest discount is a great alternative. BBQ on Wednesday for $7 including drink, count me in! Everytime I have stayed here it feels like I'm the only person in the hotel which I love. It's generally quiet and the rooms are just the right amount of private. The high ceilings give the best illusion of space and adds a kitsch feel. I love this hotel and would highly recommend staying here.

Just a short walk from the waterfront and convenient to the bars and restaurants in central Wellington, this multi-storey backpackers had more of an industrial/ backpacker-factory feel than I'd have preferred, but it was fine for a couple of nights. WiFi throughout is only on a paid basis and the breakfast was overpriced. Desk staff were quite helpful though was twice sent in the wrong direction in my search for a power adapter -- thumbs up for trying, but if you don't know, better to say you don't know! Was in a six bed dorm, moderate size with three bunkbeds. Little to complain about -- clean and mattress was good. Room was on sixth floor with pretty good views. Bathrooms were likewise clean and well kept. Would I stay again? At a pinch, if I had to, but would probably try somewhere else first.

Logan Brown very close proximity, Havana bar & Restaurant, this was my favourite, easy walking to Cuba street, then down to Te Papa, Gallipoli exhibition was incredible. We took an Uber out to Maranui Cafe at Lyall Bay, exceptional breakfast, brunch food and the salads looked devine. Jumped in another cab to go to Weta Workshop, we did one tour $28 or you can opt to do 2 tours for $45, one was fab, really pleased we did the tour and they have a free video running which is really information you can watch in the cave. Birthday dinner at Ortega fish shack, this was the highlight, amazing food, great service and a wee pernod with great red wine. This place is a must for your visit to Wellington. Our hotel has a great pool/gym area and Sauna. The front reception area is nice to sit and read the paper, definitely come back again for a stay.

Stayed here for a day during my weekend trip to Wellington, a few months back and had a pleasant stay overall. Though I got there before the check-in time, the front desk executive was understanding of my situation and provided me a room which was being cleaned by housekeeping. They did a $10 charge on my credit card during check-in which was eventually reversed during check-out. The housekeeping staff were very polite and did a good job of getting the room ready. There was no air-con in the room but they provided a fan which seemed sufficient. The area around the hotel seemed safe at night. The positives of this hotel are its location and proximity to restaurants. On the whole, this property exceeded my expectations and is suitable for those looking for a stay at a central location in Wellington.

We had a fantastic stay at the Bolton Hotel in Wellington and wished we had been able to stay longer. I would definitely recommend this hotel , especially to families with children as the rooms were big with a large bedroom which had a separate bathroom, living area, and kitchen. The kitchen was fully equipped and even had a washer/dryer machine! The hotel was centrally located and we were able to leave our car in 'valet parking' at the hotel and walk around Wellington for the 2 days we were there. Everything that we wanted to do was within walking distance (the cable car up to the botanical gardens - which incidentally has a fantastic children's adventure playground area; the waterfront area with bars and cafes; the Te Papa museum; Lambton Quarter shopping area). The staff at the hotel were very friendly and happy to offer advice about things to do etc. We ate in the restaurant at the hotel on our first night and although they did not have a children's menu, the chef was able to whip up a more child-friendly meal for our children.

New property and well located and so it was in good condition. The main issue was the mechanical noise. When we complained the receptionist said all the mechanicals for the building were in the wall adjacent to our room and others had also complained. Fortunately it was a constant noise so bearable but you did feel like your were in a factory with the constant hum of loud machinery. The same noise was also experienced bu our friends 2 floors below also in the number 7 room on their floor

My partner and I were stuck at Wellington airport after missing our flight and desperately needed somewhere to stay so we just booked the closest accommodation and hoped for the best. We were so pleased with the motel - from the free pickup to the spa bath, all the amenities were perfect. The bed was comfy, room was clean, bath was luxurious and the staff were so friendly (Sam, you're a star!). While the room was a bit smaller than the average motel room, it was more than enough for two people. There was ample seating including a bar-style counter in the kitchenette so we had somewhere to sit for dinner. I'm so glad we picked Airport Motel and I'll definitely book here again if I need accommodation close to the airport.

We were a group of 8 people ( 3 kids and 5 adults). And it meet out needs quite comfortably. Specially rooms with two bathroom were a bonus. The staff ( Night Manager Mr. Bharat) was very accommodating and helpful. Sharing his insight about the city based on our unique requirement was very much appreciated by evey one in our group. The location is super nice...and closer to all the attractions in Wellington. Plenty of food joints when a person leaves the hotel. Pomodoro Pizza and Punjab House were our selection. Security and Safety is super nice and comfortable car parking close to hotel.

Serviced apartments. First night we were disturbed by some kind of fighting on the floor above us or beside us, we weren't sure, which means sound proofing is not that top-notch, but bearable, no problem sleeping at all. We got the studio type, it comes with a washer/dryer machine, kitchen. It is fully equipped, designed for long-term rental if you want. Our room was facing the street, so in the weekend at around 3am, there was a couple walking on the street and talking, which we could hear from our room (we were on the 2nd floor). But it's in the city center so everything was accessible - spots like the beehive, the cable car terminal, Wellington museum, Cuba street - can just walk! From the Quest on the Terrace there's a hotel across the street where you can take the lift to go down to Lambton Quay, so you don't need to go around and walk the whole way if you want to go to the center. There is a convenience store just steps from the building, and coffee shops too. Walking distance from a Catholic church. Just minutes away from the airport, no problem if you have luggage just go through the hotel from across the street and take the bus going to the airport, there is ample space for the luggage in the bus. Tiny problem is street parking. It gets filled up fairly quickly. They do have a parking lot but you have to pay. Also there was a strong smell in the hallway that I found nauseating. Convenient and check-in/check-out process was fast.

InterContinental Wellington is wonderful first class hotel which has everything you would expect from InterContinental. All my needs and expectations were met with high class standards. On my mind, this is the best hotel in Wellington now. Wonderful job of all staff members. Special thanks for everyone involved for making my daughter’s birthday celebration unforgettable!

The setup on Dixon was perfectly located in the city of Wellington. Friendly staff, clean room and good facilities. For example, guests could gym for free at the Les Mills gym which was a big bonus. Also free coffee, hot chocolate and tea. Only downside was that the room had no window and the airflow wasn't the best, but it's your own choice to book a room with a window of without. Would recommend a windowroom!

Everything was great - the room was really well equipped, the decor was nice, bed was huge and very comfy, it was spotlessly clean and the staff were nothing but smiling and helpful. It is very central but is tucked away up a small side street that is a bit of a pain to get to but it was very quiet, unlike any of the hotels in Cuba St (you've been warned!!). This is going to be my default hotel in Wellington from now on.... top class.

My fiance and I had an 8-hour layover in Wellington so we decided to stay at the Airport Motor Lodge to get a few hours sleep before getting on a very early flight. We got to the motel at about 10:30pm and the man who greeted us when we checked in was very friendly and hospitable. He showed us our room, gave us information regarding the property (what to do if you check out early, where to get food on the way back to the airport, etc). The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom had toiletries, which was a nice surprise for a motel! It was an easy check out at 3.30am and only a short 8-10 minute walk to the airport. Definitely recommend this place, especially if you want a few hours sleep in between 2 flights.

amazing! The best hostel I ever stayed in New Zealand. The whole place just smell really nice. Clean room and bathroom. The kitchen and common areas are very spacious and comfortable that I almost just want to stay in all day. Breakfast was simple but nice and good coffee. Because all the early ferry is fully booked, I had to get on a 2am ferry and they were really nice to let me hang out at the common areas till late. Highly recommend to stay here

We checked in on New Years' Eve at around 6pm, and the owner was very friendly and gave us some good tips about eating and drinking out that evening, since Wellington is a bit of a sleepy capital city. The wi-fi actually worked, was decently fast, and the allocation was generous for a New Zealand motel (200MB each). Amongst other useful items, the kitchen contained two wine glasses, which was very helpful for our NYE celebrations! Even from the second floor, we had a great view out over the city, which would have been even better if the Wellington council hadn't cancelled their fireworks display. The bed was perfectly comfortable and the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. TV was fairly large and I think we had Sky. The layout of the motel is a little bizarre and the first (ground) floor, including the lift, is closed off between 9.30pm and 8.30am, so we needed to carry our suitcases down a flight of stairs when we left early the next morning. It's a 15-minute walk into town, or the nearest airport bus stop, and just 10 minutes' walk to Cuba Street (a great little strip with lots of decent restaurants). There is a fantastic kid's playground just around the corner.

Old property that serves as a backpackers, but also has private rooms, some with ensuites, some with shared facilities that are more than adequate. Nothing flash but it was warm (centrally heated with old radiator type system throughout hotel giving consistent dry heat). Mattress was reasonably new and comfortable, with clean linen. Double room was clean and spacious with relatively sparse old, solid furnishings, but perfectly suitable for a cheap overnight stay before/after a late afternoon flight, ferry, train or coach and when an early morning transfer is required. Handy to Bluebridge Ferry terminal and across the road from the central Wellington Railway Station, with an airport bus stop and Intercity bus stop within a 3 minute walk. Not really a destination hotel, and by no means of a high standard, but comfortable, straightforward and friendly. The price is the winner here.

This hostel is located right in the heart of Wellington. It gives it a great urban feel, and is centrally located near all the attractions and, for ease of access, many stores. The facility offers many amenities such as a café, kitchen, all the areas that you would expect from a hostel. It was also very clean and tidy. I stayed in a private room, as that was all they had from booking last minute, but even the private room was very comfy and cozy. The staff was very friendly and was kind to note the features as this was my first time staying with them. Overall, it was worth the value. If I was staying a longer stay in Wellington, I would’ve definitely booked a traditional shared room (I love meeting new people).
