Where to stay in Rotorua
Rotorua hotels & accommodations

This was the best room i stayed over my 5 days X'mas trip. This hotel is a brand new hotel and just relocated to city centre. Easy walking distance to local restaurants and Lake Rotorua.I stayed in the basic room type but the room was fantastic. Have got everything we need: comfotable bed, TV with heaps of free movie selections, iphone dock, brand new stove and even we...

Princes Gate hotel us ideally situated next to the Government Gardens in Rotorua. We booked the cheapest double on offer and whilstvthe room was small, the size is mentioned on the website, so it is what we expected. The shower room appeared to have been newly refurbished and was very nice. We were warned not to open the bedroom windows at night because of insects so...

I stayed in a family of four, a couple aged 9 and 14. I came to Rotorua by car from Auckland Airport. It was exciting for couples in NZ after 23 years. 8 / 5-7 Stayed 3 days and 2 nights. The first floor was a living room, the second floor was a two-room bedroom, bath and toilet. I was worried about cold because it was NZ in winter, but the heaters were also very comfor...

This is definitely the best hostel for backpacker in Rotorua. Initially, I planned to stay for only 2 nights, but then I have extended my stay because it was really good. I owned a 6 persons dorm bed room, with attached bathroom. The staffs are friendly, the room is clean and cozy and they even have free Hot Pool. The price is even cheaper than YHA. I'd strongly reco...

sudima lake rotorua hotel is convenient to just about everything in rotorua. situated next to the lake and the polynesian baths i found i could eat at night and explore the town and gardens on foot. i would happily return to the sudima on my next trip to rotorua.

We stayed here for two nights. One of the best accommodation we have stayed in New Zealand! A Spa in our private house. Room was nice and clean with kitchen facilities for us. Owner was friendly and gave us recommendations to places to go, he also showed us around the room, nice extra touch. Highly recommended!

We have stayed in this resort during one of the weekends in October 2016. Our booking was absolutely last minute - as we really didn't plan to stay overnight in Rotorua, but it was getting late and we decided to book a place. So booking was done literally 2-3 hours before we came to check-in & gladly we had no problems with that. The rooms price was about $160 (deluxe ...

In a word, it was unbeatable... I have been to almost 50 countries and countless hotels, and this was one of the most pleasant. It was very clean and there were pools available. The owners were very accommodating and friendly... they even gave us a welcome gift of fresh milk to drink which was outstanding. The breakfast is available for a separate fee, but is home-cook...

It’s a delight when you’ve been driving through New Zealand’s amazing scenery for hours and pull onto a property that is just as lovely with green pastures, bamboo groves, flowers, and animals wandering about. The lodge itself isn’t very modern but it was cozy and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. After breakfast we had a nice short walk around the ...

We were very much impressed by the friendliness of the owner couple. Our check in was quick and we could even check in earlier than the usual time, which was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The host was happy to give us info. about what to visit in Rotorua and quick in helping us to book a tour to Mitai Maori Village, which is highly recommended. I love the ...

We stay at Accolade for 2 nights. The owner of this motel is very friendly and very helpful. As we check-in at afternoon, he gave us a lot of useful information, include what we must do at Rotorua, and he gave us many discount voucher for the attractions. The motel is just in front of big Supermarket, and we can cook at the public kitchen at the motel. It's also very n...

Stayed there for 2 nights in early December 2016. Booked a family room for 4 adults and 1 kid, got an extra bed without extra charge. Room not very spacious, but enough for having a deep sleep after day time activities. Kitchen is clean and spacious with full equipment. Asked the staff for Tamaki Maori Village tickets, got 10 percent discount. Waited outside YHA for fr...

After having driven from New Plymouth to Auckland, and straight away down to Rotorua, we were very tired. Astray Motel is situated in the heart of Rotorua, and a sign on the main road, very easy to find. I don't usually stay in backpackers when I travel, but Astray Motel & Backpackers would be my exception. With friendly staff, our room was very simple but immaculate. ...

This was our first 2 nights in New Zealand and the bar was definitely raised! We were greeted by very lovely and charismatic hosts who gave a great overview of Rotorua with tips of what to do and what to see. The lodge is very cosy and perfect for resting, the very good variety of TV channels are an added bonus. Thermal pool was very relaxing and a good touch. Overall,...

Rotorua has many attractions to fill the day, but decent, value-for-money accommodation puts the icing on the cake. And this comes in leaps and bounds at the Rotorua Motel! The economy room with kitchenette is spacious and everything works. The free internet was super fast, too. The owner, Dawn, is friendly and full of tips on where to go. One great piece of advice she...
Floors, curtains, windows, shower and tables a bit dirty (TV remote very sticky!). Bed linnen clean (which was a relief). No much toilet paper for 5 guests we were (just one roll), so we had to go and ask for more. They didn't have toilet roll so they gave us tissue paper. No gel in the shower (the dispenser was empty), so we asked for replacement and they kindly repla...

This has been our best place to stay so far. 24hr Reception made checking in late very easy and stress-free for us. The staff were amazing, everybody always said hello. Such a happy positive vibe throughout the entire establishment from Reception through to the Restaurant and even the floor staff. Rooms were older but very clean and tidy with our room being cleaned da...

Booked a Large Studio Unit but instead got a free upgrade to a One Bedroom Apartment due to room availability. We stayed for 3 nights and staff didnt disappoint us, daily house keeping. Private spa pool was wonderful to which me and my gf use to relax. We also got a box of chocolates upon check out from the owner. Thank you very much and we enjoyed our stay!

The hostel is 50m from the intercity bus. Other hostels in Rotorua have outside area ( funky green...) for almost the same price so I prefered staying in those ones, I had to stay in different hostels because one nigth was fully booked in funky green. It is clean, and they give you free pasta and rice if you ask reception. There is no lockers.

Terrible booking system with Agoda. First time I have used Agoda and it will probably be the last. Fortunately the staff at Green View hotel were excellent. The hotel is a budget conscious option, however it is great value for money in over priced Rotorua and the private hot pools a great bonus. Thank you to the staff for ensuring we had an enjoyable stay.

We travelled in 4: 2 adults and 2 children under 13 years old. We took Superior 1-bedroom apartment for 3 nights. And we can say that this place was totally awesome. The room was spacious and clean. The kitchen utensils were so complete and new. There were spa pool and barbeque grill in the backyard. ALmost everything was provided here. And most of all, the hosts (...

Five star cleanliness-Absolutely(I believe I should know due to being Housekeeping Manager of a 64rm establishment for the past 6yrs lol) Had planned a weekend of rest & relaxation, Rose Court exceeded my expectations by far. Was nervous about noise from neighboring guests, once we arrived back from markets could clearly hear the joy of fellow guests-family with child...

We had a private double, NOT ensuite. Our room was on second floor but there is a ramp, no stairs. We travel with small carry-ons. It was not a problem for us to roll these to our room. One backpacker complained that too many keys are too difficult for a backpacker to handle. Really? This person really gives bad names to all backpackers. This hostel gives you three key...

the receptionist was nice. hotel was clean and tidy. Everything was organized well. there is a bar nearby where you could enjoy discount if you chose Base Rotorua. some noise at night but tolerable when you close the windows. Free parking. Wifi a bit expensive, though first 50mb is free.

Surroundings are so quiet, beautiful and refreshing. The room and kitchen are clean. Queen bed is comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. Staff are lovely and helpful. 2 single beds' string need some oil as it created noise. No mobile phone network coverage at all.

we stayed over New Year's day. The studio was next to the play ground and it was very handy. Lake Rotorua was only three minutes walk form the park. We had a good time at the lake. The only thing bothered me was karaoke machine or whatever played until late night loudly.

This was in a good location with good facilities in the room. My only small negative comment would be that the heater was way too small for the size of the room. It was only a tiny oil filled radiator and it only really took the chill from the room. It was a particularly cold night in Rotorua though and there was an electric blanket and extra blankets so I was still qu...

The rooms are big, well appointed and have heating. The kitchenette is well appointed, plenty of room and would suit staying for a while in Rotorua. Close to the center of town. Plenty of room if you are travelling with family, separate bedroom with lounge converting to a bed room.

I think this was the best and fantastic hotel i have ever stayed in New Zealand. The bathroom had the jacuzzi and was quite large. We booked Luxury Studio Unit, and it had two huuuge bed in it. Upon check in, we were warmly greeted by the hotel staff who seems very nice. We were given a bottle of milk together with the room key. Large enough room has all essentials the sink is unique in the bathroom. Staying close to the city so you need to consider the smell of sulphur it is not overpowering but if it bugs you it is better not to stay near the city. Itva like no child activities nothing like the add showed we couldn't find what was in the advertisement any were just horrible horrible place . Over grown grass ...looked like a homeless people place or a "P house. Never again will I use your site to go on my holidays.

when I first booked this, I don't expect much, since it's a motel. But, when I got there, the place surprise me. Its clean and comfortable. We rent family room for 5 people, kind of narrow and hard to move around, because 3 beds were put in the living room. There were no air conditioner, but they provide fan, its ok during winter. Overall I feel satisfy and will be bac...

The hotel is a bit further from the town..about 15 minutes from the town and within the Ramada Resort compound. The unit is owned by a private owner and we were entertained by Sherene, a friendly lady. The venue was awesome where it is fronting a lake..very cooling and with beautiful scenery. I love the apartment and it was a comfy stay that made us happy to come again...

toni and glen were very friendly and helpful, we could only stay two nights and asked their advice on what to see etc. when we had chosen the activities toni booked the tours for us. the rooms and bedding were spotless. the spa bath, set in our own private courtyard was great, filling it from the tap meant the temperature was ones own choice, a great way to relax af...

This is a charming motel and you can tell the owner gives it alot of thought and care. Very clean and nice little touches in the room. We were kindly upgraded when we checked in. I found the hotel very good as the owners run the hotel well, you tell it was privately owned as they went above and beyond. They even offered transport into the city if you wanted to go out for a drink. The bathroom had a nice big spa in it which was good to relax in after a day of walking around.

Located centrally, this place is ideal for families seeking accomodation. The kichenette and other facilities were very good and the staff too are helpful. With other conveniences like supermarket etc. in close proximity this is a very good place to stay in Rotorua.

We stayed at Bella Vista Motel in Rotorua. Hotel is within walking distance of Kuirau Park that had some cool foot baths and sulfur pools. Public pool at the park. Easy walk to Eat street and basically across the street from Lake Rotorua, we also had a bakery across the street that had great meat pies, award winning. Room was nice, clean, comfortable, frig, microwave. ...

We spent 3 nights at Chris and Dave’s place and could not have been more pleased. We stayed at the Mokoia Room, and the view is to die for. Chris and Dave are the most gracious hosts that we have ev...

Very nice room, full of zen, clean, modern minimalist, pretty much what you see on the picture is exactly what you get, even more. Heated towel rail, heater in room, bathroom, even heated blanket! Overall was Pretty Satisfied , Staff was very Friendly with accomodate of private Spa Pool at the backyard. Laundry service provided was Free. Kitchen utilitliez , TV , Bedroom with Heater are all provided. Location to the city Rotorua just within minutes.

Pros: Clean, friendly, basic room, nice pool. Cons: a long way from town. I was a bit surprised at the cost especially mid winter when it was nearly empty, paid $144 per night and can get a 4-5 star good hotel in town for around $90 per night, I should have shopped around! Thats my only gripe, otherwise a nice place.

we planned originally to stay only one night in Rotorua, but this place was so well located and so quite. No one to bother you, that we decided to stay another day. It was way more than what we though. We stayed in the deluxe queen room and loved it, the only detail was that the place was under refurbishment so some things were not working properly but the place itself...

We only stayed 1 night at Peter's place but it ended up being our favourite accommodation in New Zealand. The house was beautifully decorated and the bedrooms were very comfortable. Highly recommend for big families looking for a comfortable place to stay in Rotorua.

Situated on main road into town but within easy driving distance of shops, restaurants and thermal parks. Very friendly welcome on arrival, well appointed room with spa tub, ideal for relaxation after long drive. Laundry facilities excellent.Plenty of parking on site. We were very grateful for advice about how best to spend our time in Rotorua, eg which thermal park...

Ron and Leslie are very friendly and being extremely helpful and thoughtful. Their house has the best view and well decorated, which is rare to seen in Rotorua city. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Especially for those have a group more than three.

I would recommend redwood trees walk. It is 10 minutes driving from the city and easy to handle. soft ground and you can choose walking longer or shorter route.
We went there for the hot springs, it was pretty decent! One of the pools had views over the lake, we went there at night and the next morning, just to see what the differences were.
Gained world-wide fame as a health center under British rule, maintained and developed it over the years.
classified as big city and the inhibitant was less friendly then smaller cities. even the I-centre employees were less co-operative during closing time.
Rotorua is close to a lot tourist attractions, like Lake Taopo, Hot Water Beach, Matamata and glow worm caves.
Just a beautiful place to visit. People are ever so friendly no need to pay for parking in lots of places.
Redwood forest and Lakes walks,, Buried Village experience, Evening Cultural experience and hangi, Polynesian Spa, Urbano Restaurant- all recommended, interesting and memorable.
Only there for 2 nights & a day. We had good meals, friendly staff at restaurants, "Eat Street" a great idea.
No trip to the North Island of New Zealand is complete without a stop at Rotorua. From the sulphor smell throughout the place, which knocks you over upon arrival, to the PRince of Wales geyser, to the Maori living village and the lake side activities including float plane and helicopter rides over the entire area, this is one stop not to be missed.
Roturua located in a good place which is in the central of Matamata, Taupo, Beach of plenty. Stay here and you could go around lots of different spot.
Rotorua is a resort place for relaxing. You can also visit various mud spa just around the town. The Maorie buildings are worth to visit if you want to understand the culture of this nation.
A must visit place : Mitae Maori Village Where the world of Maori is showcased with great pride and passion, through the knowledge and understanding from ancestors passed down from generation to generation.
A lovely town with so many beautiful sights to see and activities nearby. 2-3 days here and 1-2 in Taupo would be perfect to see such a beautiful part of the world.
The Mitai Maori cultural evening - just a few minutes up the road - was really excellent, including dinner.
Lot of things to do & see, interesting thermal mud boiling, colour volcanic lakes and an amazing Huka fall.
Rotorua is known for its hot springs, so visiting during the cold months of winter would be most ideal.
Lovely place with LOTS to do! Must take the cable car up the mountain and ride the luge! Golf, bungy, luge, spas, thermal wonderland.
There are so many things to see so we asked the staff and they told us and gave us directions even to the best places to eat
10 free attraction places e.g museum, maori village, beach... Many other's attraction places that cost money e.
There are many attractions in Rotorua including beautiful well attended parks, some having their own mud pools bubbling away, its fascinating to stand and watch a pool of mud bubbling, while others have steam rising from the surface of the water.
Where do I start? The smell as most will tell you is the first thing to hit you as you enter the town but you do get used to it or may not even notice it because of all the outdoor leisure activities you are caught up in! We only spent 2 days in Rotorua & boy did we cram some action in! Only advice would be to give the Zorb ball a miss & go with Ogo which is a lot bigger run and closer to town.
very nice places, very good for sightseeing and such a lovely places to see the beautioful sight of mother nature.
Tourist information centre was huge & staff were very helpful - making choosing the best attractions to visit easy.
Love the pace. Lots of amusement parks. Must see the tallest geyser, simply awesome. Lots of good restaurants and cafes around.
The volcanic parks are amazing. Visit also the less famous they can be amazing. Have at least two full days you won't regret it.
Rotorua is basically a small city, just a midway for travellers visiting sightseeing spots nearby e.g.
its good to come even for the weekend, lots to see and do. Not far from Auckland and a pleasant drive Did notice a lot of shops were closed, sign of the times.
I was surprised at the high prices of the attractions in Rotorua. I am originally from nz, and have been going to rotorua since I was a young kid.
