"We booked this hotel on same day (as our whale watching tour got cancelled that day) and was very happy they could accommodate us. Our room was simple but clean and had a heater that was working and enough blankets to keep us warm. The location is great too, with grocery and some restaurants just walking distance. The staff was great - friendly, hospitable, and gave great recommendations!"

"fairways is a wonderful, luxurious property in which to spend a couple of days exploring the area. the fact that it is just south of town is fine if you have a car - if not i suggest staying on the esplanade. the apartment has excellent appointments and was wonderfully warm, with the large fireplace quite an interesting feature, as apparently it is mainly for looks! i still felt some heat coming from it in the lounge area in any case. there is some construction going on across the way, which whilst mildly annoying did not detract from our stay. go for a walk around the new estate - the views from the higher roads are sensational. we drove to the summit of stage 7 of the estate late at night and the star show was quite amazing, best i have seen in years. we even tried to feed the ducks in the pond from the jetty - but they must be quite well fed (or fed up of us tourists) and they completely ignored us. no matter, we loved kaikoura and would absolutely stay at fairways again. "We used AGODA to book two nights accommodation at the Bella Vista Motel Kaikoura and somehow AGODA booked us in and the Bella Vista Motel didn't have any rooms left. We only found this out on arrival after driving up from Christchurch. Well, when we arrived the manager of the Bella Vista Motel Kaikoura - can't remember her name sorry - had already seen that she didn't have a room available and she rang around a very busy Kaikoura and secured us two nights accommodation. This service was immense, and above and beyond anything I'd of expected anywhere in the world: phenomenal, there's no other word for it. The manager even took us over to the new motel, introduced us and set us up over there: fantastic. In the end we are very sorry that we never got to stop at the Bella Vista Motel Kaikoura. "

"Call Glenburn direct to book this place. Agoda is a rip off. Took more money from our account than expected due to hidden fees. Also failed to send check in information. Don’t let that stop you staying at Glenburn Coastal Retreat. Attention to detail with amazingly set out villas. Pictures don’t due it justice. Wish we could have stayed longer. "

"We had a great stay at the Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge. The room is in the right size and full equipped with Kitchenette. We also use the Sauna room for just $5 for half an hour. It's about 15 mins walk from the main street and the whale watch station. We would recommend this hotel to our friends."

"You need to check this out. If you want convention, check out something else. Wacky Stays is a Farmstay experience (help feed the animals) and is therefore a great stay for kids. For adults, if you are adventurous, you'll love this. The location is a couple of k's inland from Kaikoura. They'll send you directions. Don't trust the Satnav. The place consists of open fields with a different stay experience in each; yurt, gypsy caravan, train carriage. The train carriage is the pick of them for us. Saved after the Christchurch earthquakes, this carriage is all polished timber and brass accessories, meticulously restored, full kitchen with full breakfast items provided (farm eggs), a neatly integrated bathroom, a double brass bed in a bedroom at one end, two bunk beds in a kids facility at the other. End platforms and a full front deck. Dressing gowns for all. Sitting area and DVD's. Snow-capped mountain view. Isolated. Farm surroundings. Adventurous. Read the label. Great experience."
