Where to stay in Chiang Khong (Chiang Rai)
Chiang Khong (Chiang Rai) hotels & accommodations

We stayed in a Deluxe Executive river view room. Was a little bigger than the plain Deluxe river view. Overall a very pleasant stay. Nice modern decor, comfy bed. Great views across the Mekong to Laos. Was low season so not much happening in Chiang Khong, but I would stay again at the Fortune River.

We came here the forth or fifth time because of the sun rise river view at the Khong River. The moon bathtub with the river view is fantastic. We like the New Year merit making tradition in Chiang Khong. Gala dinner is homey. My 72 years old mother enjoyed the stay. We went to the local temple nearby at 8 am. We left around 12 noon for Chiang San. We love driving to Ch...

I have stayed at the Namkhong Riverside Hotel a number of times and other hotels in Chiang Khong a few times. The Namkhong Riverside is a good choice. Centrally located in the older part of town and with great views of the Mekong from rooms and the dining area. Good staff, good breakfast and reliable internet...

While in Laos, we booked one night at this border hotel in Chiang Khong. We were on our way to Chiang Rai and had heard from a good source that Chiang Khong was a better place to stop than Huay Xai, Laos. To our utter surprise both the hotel and the town impressed us so much that we wished we could stay longer (but had prebooked the next night elsewhere.) This is a ...

Just amazing. The guy who owns the place was so incredibly welcoming from the off, even though we were only staying for one night. He offered us lifts to and from town, and to the immigration controls in the morning, after serving a fantastic breakfast sat on the huge balcony with breathtaking views over the river and the surrounding mountains. We stumbled upon this pl...

I stayed river view room and it is so lovely. I think since you visit Chiang Khong, it is best to stay with river view room. Sitting down at the balcony facing the river is a good feeling. The room and whole place are not old, clean, cozy and nice even lobby too. Lobby faces river view is real great relax place to be. Plus they have real coffee drinks for sale at reaso...

Very good big guesthouse, ideally located, experienced staff, nice big garden +pool with lots of chlorine.. The more expensive rooms left of reception are specially worth their money (600 -800 bt) . The ones other side (250 - 300 bt) have one disadvantage: walls are thin bamboo, wood floor creaks, bed also. So you have to be a sound sleeper. But there are hardly any...

Price is unbeatable. Best for backpacker. People are helpful. You can borrow a bicycle to explore the city. Very clean and neat bed and this is what I need after a long haul bus from LPB to Chiang Khong. Also, there are different types of room which will fit for your need. I will choose this hostel again if I visit Chiang Khong again^^

Although most people only stay overnight in Chiang Khong before crossing into Laos, I can thoroughly recommend spending 2 or 3 nights relaxing and taking in the beauty of the Mekong River. I spent three nights in a riverview room and can't wait to come back and stay again. The staff were courteous and very helpful and English was spoken fluently at reception. The room ...

This hotel is the first hotel after you get to Huay Xai and cross into Thailand. They are so accomodation rooms large and clean. Simple breakfast but more than enough. They will pick you up at boarder crossing 1km from hotel, and even take you to bus station to catch bus to Chang mai for free.

I booked this for my Partner and three of her friends who are all competitive runners and had entered the Chiang Khong - Laos Friendship Bridge run. They were well looked after, the owner took them into Chiang Khong to visit the Night Bazaar, took them to the start of the race and picked them up when it was all over, great service. The rooms were nice and clean, the wh...

Great little treat in Chiang Khong. Beautiful hut in a great setting. Easy to find and just a short foodwalk away from the Mekong river and all the local amenities. Definitely a recommendation in Chiang Khong even for several nights. The staff / owners are very friendly and even speak a little bit english. Don´t expect anything from the "included brekky" - don´t even ...

As the name suggests, this hotel overlooks the river. So it is a short walk to plenty of restaurants and street food. The restaurant at the hotel was not open for business. The rooms and furnishings are getting old. There are some ants. Otherwise the room was bright with a river view. The staff are friendly and helpful, though English is limited. The young woman at the...

we were very happy with port side hotel as it was the closest hotel to the port of chiang khong and we had to make an early start in order to catch the slow boat down the mekong from chiang khong to luang prabang. many travellers are doing the same trip and have to go through thai and lao customs early in the morning so they can catch the slow boats. this kind of trave...

When I booked, I thought the hostel was in Chiang Rai, instead of Chiang Khong... But it's my fault for not checking the map and the address. But as I was planning on going there the next day, it wasn't a problem. The owner is a very nice person. The beds are comfy, there's three toilets/showers for the dorm. Everything was very clean. I didn't go to the bar but it l...

This hotel is still under various forms of construction and should not be listed for bookings, the only thing completed was the room, No restaurant or bar facilities. Pool was still under construction, we were the only guests. Only one staff member on reception, a couple of gardeners and some contractors working on the restaurant. When attending breakfast which was in...

Nice new facility to stay while in Chiang Khong. Mai and her son are a super host very accommodating to anything we needed. Beautiful views while on the property. Sat eve there was a street market that was delightful. The only downside was the 1 night we stayed it was quite Smokey from burning in Loas. Would not hesitate to book next time in town.

Hardly any views. We were simply there to stay overnight and then on to Mekong River Cruise to Luang Prabang
Don't come here for the city itself, take a boat over the Mekong to Lao (destined for Luang Prabang) the next morning!
With the opening of the Friendship Bridge IV (4th between Thailand & Laos), which is located about 10km away from this town, and the ferry terminal closed for foreigner crossing, this town will slowly die.
We have arrived by boat from Laos & we would highly recomment booking a 2-3 days boat ride on the river Mekong.
Chieng Khong is a small town ( similar to Chieng Khan 10 year ago ). Still vergin and not so many tourists.
My visit was only one night before crossing into Laos. I enjoyed the short time spent around Chiang Rai and would like to have had longer to explore the region.
