"We have been in Sukhothai 3 times and always stayed at another hotel. When it was booked this time, we decided to try the Sawasdee Sukhothai Resort. What a great decision this was. The rooms are large, comfortable and really beautiful. Our bathroom sink was handmade ceramic and one of the wall was decorated with a large hand-painted design with elephants. The beds are comfortable and the room is really a separate little "hut" with it's own patio equipped with chairs and a table. The grounds are beautifully kept without being overdone. There were orchids in bloom hanging in most of the trees and lovely pots with water lilies. Breakfast included both Western and Thai dishes which were all delicious. The owner and other staff at this hotel are gracious, friendly and always willing to help with directions, recommendations and anything else you might want. We will be staying here whenever we visit Sukhothai in the future."

"Sukhothai is beautiful and this hotel matches the natural beauty. The grounds are gorgeous, with lily ponds, flowers, trees and a Wat next door that makes sunset truly memorable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The infinity pool is beautiful . My room was spacious and beautifully decorated. . But like everywhere I went in Sukhothai, the food was bland,, for Western tastes and the Thai dishes in the hotel's restaurant and even in the night market were as bland and untasty, as any I had in Thailand. Come for the comfort and beauty, but don't expect to eat well."

"Great environment with trees and foliage providing a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel has access to wat changlom at the back entrance. It has a small stream passing through it, which provides for opportunity to see some wildlife and adds to the character of the place. Sukhothai historical park is about 1km away. Bicycles are available at the park or can be hired locally. The swimming pool is warm as it gets the sun all day with no shade but is open till late. Enjoyed our 3 day stay with the staff providing great service. Breakfast was good with coconut hot cakes a favourite. We enjoyed the restaurant and food as we had a lunch after a morning visit to Sukhothai and 2 dinners. Massage was great best so far in Thailand. "

"Scent of Sukhothai hotel/resort, is a little off the beaten track, it is a very quiet hotel, ldeal for young family's, and it has a good sized pool, it serves breakfast only ( eggs cooked to order) with all the other bits and bobs that you have, cereal, tea/coffee juice etc. Rooms are a good size, bathroom spotless, BUT, no safe deposit box in room. For a meal at night, you will have to go into Sukhothai itself, where there are numerous eating places, with beer and soft drinks available. If i have one gripe about the hotel, it is tbe lack of one English speaking tv channel to let people know what is going on in the world (good or bad), there are over 60 tv channels available, all, Thai, surely one english speaking channel is not too much to ask....is it ?. I would not rate it as Fantastic, as others have done, but as a good , relaxing place to be, i would certainly go back again "

Sukhothai is a quiet and peaceful park. moto is too noise. hotel has good air condition for hot temperature. environment is clean and lovely. but there is no swwimming pool, no big balcony, in hot days, U only can stay in room."

"Walking distance to Sukhothai historical Park. Friendly staff but wasn't able to speak much English. But the biggest problem with my stay was mice. They entered the dorm room and ate my food in my backpack. At night I couldn't sleep well because cats chased mice around. Also some mosquitoes in room, and I got bite too. Trash under my bed. They need to do more."

"This is probably the best hotel in Sukhothai. Nice view, great pool, nice surrounding, and good service. In addition, the massage service in this resort is excellent and we were very happy about staying there to relax! The only downside of this resort is that the breakfast is so so, but this minor defect does not ruin the overall excellence of this place!"

"i stayed here after spending a night at the grand riverside hotel in phitsanulok, taking a bus to sukhothai. little did i know that the songtaew fare would be to get to old sukhothai, but that is a byline. i was warmly greeted by the owners, who promptly showed me to my cozy room overlooking the pool. i almost had the entire place to myself, which allowed paolo to share some of his secrets for a successful trip to sukhothai and who encouraged me to sit back and relax. the pool was a wonderful way to relax in the heat of the day before i borrowed one of the establishment's scooters and tore off around sukhothai. what an amazing, laid back place just outside the city walls! the breakfast was truly incredible, as marketed. i would definitely stay here again if i returned to sukhothai!"

"Chanalai hotel was nice and the service was awesom!, I've been spending two nights(cos my car was broke down on the way to Bangkok). The room was basic, but very comfortable & nice landscape. Not far from Head Seaw town but a bit far from the historical park 20mins drive, but all easily accessible by motorbike (Yes you can rent by the hotel 300/day). Any information you need for your visit to get around a town and the historical park by the hotel. I met the owner(Bell). He can provide you all you need to make your life easier. I have not found a single detail to complain about - the free wifi worked good .Overall, great and worth money I paid for."

"Our stay was wonderful. We stayed longer than most guests stay in Sukhothai (7 days) because we were there for Loy Krathong. So we would go out to the historical site very early in the morning to take photos before the crowds arrived and return to the site late afternoon for the festivities. It was so good to have a place to spend time during the day that was so much more than a hotel room. If you went and sat in the restaurant you were made welcome (it was open all day) and it was very relaxing with the beautiful fish pond, there was the lovely gardens or the pool. All the staff were very friendly and it was like being part of a big family. Any questions we had about the area were sorted out, the owner helped us organise motor bike rental and even drove us to the airport bus link when we left. The food in the restuarant is fantastic, very authentic Thai. The breakfast menu is great with really interesting combinations that would suit everyone. So basically we loved staying here, would definitely stay again because we thought it was just lovely and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from big impersonal hotels to a smaller caring environment with great rooms, everything you could want in a lovely setting. We have been in Chiang Mai a few times for Loy Krathong and it is great but this festival in Sukhothai is just stunning. So thank you Foresto for a fun and relaxing time. We had never been to Sukhothai before and you were part of making it a wonderful experience."

More about Sukhothai

The Thai city of Sukhothai is a celebration of history and culture. Boasting a UNESCO Heritage listing and Old City, the first capital of the Siam kingdom still holds great importance despite being a relatively small city. Arriving to the city is easy via domestic flights to Sukhothai Airport, or buses can be boarded from Bangkok or nearby Phitsanulok.

Sukhothai Historical Park was the center of the original Sukhothai Kingdom for two centuries, and it offers many ruins from that period. It is located only 12km from the city today. Ramkhamhaeng National Museum provides an air conditioned alternative to browsing through this city’s history with a display of artifacts and information that really brings the site together. Touring the city on bike or getting a tuk tuk driver, especially one who is a worthy guide, is one of the truest ways to appreciate the city and its surroundings. Renting a motorbike of your own adds a greater sense of adventure for visitors.

A full range of accommodation can be expected here with most properties in the heart of the modern center. Resort-styled properties are generally placed outside of the town and closer to the Historical Park. Sukhothai hotels here are reasonably priced, and it is no surprise when visitors stay longer than planned to further enjoy the town’s relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.
