Stunning hotel set amidst nature ”
Heritance Kandalama is a beautiful hotel designed by the acclaimed Geoffrey Bawa. The design of the hotel is breathtaking, having been built around its natural surroundings. We were lucky to be given a corner room, so we had the advantage of two floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the Kandalama Lake. To our delight, we shared our balcony with a family of monkeys (who were not intrusive). Although dining options are limited to two restaurants and in-room dining, the food served was above average. This hotel is the perfect base for exploring nearby Sigiriya and Dambulla Cave Temples. Loved everything about our stay here, and will return again and again!

Amazing stay as usual”
This is our 7th or 8th stay at Heritance. I always book this place for my wife and kids. When I ask them what’s their first choice to stay in SriLanka, then answer will be Heritance Kandalama. Especially friendly staff, awesome food. Kandalama was rock climbing and bird watch which is included in our price was really a great experience. They guide had really good knowledge about the nature. Don’t hesitate to ask for a complementary upgrade to other category room. Staff will try their best to accommodate your request. Thank you Heritance Kandalama for your hospitality.

Amazing nature co-living experince ”
We were staying in Heritance Kandalama for 2 wonderful days! It was an amazing experience of co-living with nature. Wonderful view from 6th floor giving to the lake (we had the Panoramic room). Both room and bath-room had huge balcony/ window with a view of lake upon the forest. The rooms are quite spacious, comfortable and quite. Adapters, anti-mosquito machines are available in-room or upon request. Breakfast is variable, including both prepared and on-cooking dishes. Try the waffles – they are great! :) the territory of hotel is huge, 2 pools (small with lake view and bigger on the other side), SPA facilities, big conference-room with lake-view. When staying you can meet the monkeys on your balcony, deer chilling in front of lobby, lot’s of birds and gekkos and cross several elephant paths on your way to the hotel from main road.

I had a very pleasant stay ”
Heritance kandalama hotel is one of the eco friendly Hotel in the world, it is designed by Geoffrey Bawa. It built in the jungle and near kandalama lake, the view is amazing and the monkeys + squirrels + birds around, sometims the monkey knocked the french windows so the hotel staff reminds us to lock it if you are away to avoid monkey come inside and take your belongings out. Hotel has 3 swiming pool but i havenot used it since it is unfortunately rainy day, Staff is nice and helpful, the hotel buffet is yummy and has lots of options, price rate is a bit high after added tax and additional charge, but i will definately recommend it to the friend who is going to Sri Lanka and i will stay again if i go to Sri lanka.

Luxury in the middle of the jungle”
We spent 4 nights at the Heritance Kandalama at the end of our 3-week vacation in Sri Lanka. We had had enough of temples, ruins and busy schedules, and wanted a place where we could relax and wind down - a vacation from our vacation, if you will. We checked in and did not leave the property until checking out. This hotel is an excellent place to relax. It's an island of luxury nestled in the jungle. The views are fantastic, the pools are clean and cool, and the hotel offers a number of interesting activities, many of which are reasonably priced. We enjoyed the jungle trekking and bird-watching tours, and would have done more if we'd had the time. We also had a 90-minute couple's massage session in the attached spa - very relaxing, although the spa's prices are more in line with western prices than Sri Lankan ones. The rooms are well appointed, with large windows and balconies that look out over the jungle and/or the Kandalama lake. While very nice and comfortable, they're neither the nicest nor the largest rooms we stayed in on this trip. The breakfast buffet was quite good, including omelettes, waffles, bacon, sausage and hoppers cooked to order. A number of freshly prepared fruit juices were also available. Compared to other top-end hotels we stayed in during this trip, the prices were slightly inflated, whether for the rooms or for the food and beverages. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time at this hotel very much, and found that the location, views, pools and activities. We'd recommend the Heritance Kandalama highly as a great place to spend a few nights relaxing and enjoying the Sri Lankan tropical jungle landscape.

A nice hotel in a tranquil environment”
The best part of Heritance Kandalama was the influence of Geoffrey Bawa - the hotel is in the middle of serene nature. From our room, we had a lovely view of Kandalama lake and, occasionally, monkeys visited our balcony, peeking through the shower window. Every foot soldier in the hotel was friendly and polite. Food was very nice (we had really yummy crab curry and several kinds of great Sri Lankan sambol) and X-mas gala dinner was memorable (the band was not). But I had a feeling that the hotel tries to milk its location to the max. Since it is 15 km away from the nearest civilization, hotel guests have little option but to rely on the hotel for various activities and services. And some of these services were much over-priced compared to what one can organize for himself/herself (usually with help of one's hired driver). For example, we did a safari trip organized by our driver we hired from Colombo. The exact same safari trip offered by the hotel was almost twice the price. In addition, when I told my Sri Lankan friends that the X-mas buffet dinner was $150 per person, they were all shocked. By the way, the $150 did not even include drinks and we paid around $120 for a bottle of low-end champagne. All of these could be due to the fact that we were there during the Dec peak season. But then, you wouldn't want to be in Sri Lanka during Apr-Aug, would you?

Great high-end hotel for exploring Sigiriya”
i cannot emphasize enough how fantastic the view is. the hotel is built around the kandalama lake, and practically everywhere you go, you will have a view of the lake. not an exaggeration. plus points for the wildlife: we spotted hawks, eagles, peacocks, and pelicans around the lake. elephants supposedly visit in the dry season. there were even some monkeys hanging outside our balcony at times. (they weren't a nuisance, although best to keep your distance.) the hotel is expansive, although may look a bit dated in some areas. there are 3 pools, 2 of which overlook the lake. great for downtime with cocktails. the rooms are all right, nothing amazing, but the view kind of makes up for the so-so room design. one low point though is the erratic wi-fi. the signal was very weak in our room, and we had to stay in central areas to get a decent connection. not that big a deal though, as it is nice to disconnect. another highlight is the staff: extremely friendly and helpful. although it is a fairly big hotel, they seem to familiarize themselves with the guests and their unique needs. received great service throughout our stay. last thing, it's at an ace location, as you're about 30 minutes away from two unesco world heritage sites: the sigiriya rock fortress and the dambulla cave temple. you can even see sigiriya from the hotel. fair warning however, the hotel may be difficult to locate at night, so be sure to have a map or a driver familiar with the area.

Pure (monkey) magic bliss”
We had a magical stay at the Heritance Kandalama. We were excited to spend time in a place designed by the legendary Geoffery Bawa, but the experience exceeded our expectations. The setting and layout of the place created a deep sense of well-being. Our panorama room had a spectacular view of the jungle and lake. Meals were so good we wished we had stomachs. Monkeys popped on to our balcony to visit, and other critters frolicked in the trees in the surrounding bush. If you have time I recommend making an effort to try out all 3 pools. Each one has it's own charms.

breathtaking few”
We really enjoyed our stay here very much! We couldn't get enough of the beautiful scenery the hotels location offers. Having spent one night across the lake at amaya lake few resort, which no doubt is beauriful too, we definitely prefered heritance kandalama. Irs not as modern ans the rooms smaller and could do with a litt upgrade though. But the views, staff and food is certainly much better here.

Amazing hotel in spectacular location”
Heritance Kandalama is absolutely unique and spectacular. It is a large hotel and can be crowded and noisy (especially the pools) but it is simply an unmissable experience due to the setting and design. The room was very comfortable, the food was delicious and the personal service to help book outings was very attentive. You are a bit trapped in the hotel due to the isolated location and this causes costs to add up but again it's such a unique experience filled with natural beauty and so many animals that it's completely worth it. The spa is also very good.

2 nights stay 3 luxuy rooms in Sigiriya wing”
The stay was good however I was not impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms. We stayed at the Kandalama Heritance hotel Feb 24h and 25th nights- 3 luxury rooms in the Sigiriya wing (Rooms 304, 305 and 309)It was a group of 6 - 3 couples. All 3 bathrooms had stains in the toilet bowls. I am surprised that they don't use a high grade bleaching agent to clean these toilet bowls to make them inviting. The moment I walked in to my bathroom in Room 309 I got a musty unpleasant smell- it was not strong but nevertheless was there. Room 304 shower area got flooded as the water moved too slowly. Room 304 was having an issue connecting to free wifi even after calling Reception to get number of log on ids. Other 2 rooms did not have wifi connection issues.

Best stay ever..... a home away from home!!”
I have no words to express how happy and impressed we were as a family with the overall experience. The staff was so attentive and friendly you’d think you’ve known them for a while. The view is so..... breathtakingly beautiful and the food was exceptional!!! I wish I could’ve given my compliments to the chef personally...Heritance Kandalama certainly lives up to its name.....!! I’ve made a mental note to drop by when I’m around Dambulla even if it’s only for the food! Definitely one of my favourite and best of times spent at a hotel so far....

โรงแรมบรรยากาศที่ดีที่สุดในศรีลังกา”
we enjoyed 1 night stay at heritance kandalama hotel on new year's eve. the hotel itself was great in services and employees are well trained for guest's requirement all the time. i was satisfied with the facilities and their hospitality in total. only one thing which made us down was the gala dinner. it was too much for us to eat, and the taste was not so special. there were not so much thing to eat, and then we enjoyed some pieces of ham and cheese with a bottle of red wine.

Amazing Hotel that blends into the landscape”
Hotel Heritance Kandalama is set into the hillside and blends amazingly amongst the foliage. They operate the best check in we have ever experienced, you are taken to a table with a view of the pool and countryside offered a choice of cold drinks and they bring the paperwork to you, bliss, no queueing at a reception counter. The breakfast and dinner buffets offer a great selection of hot/cold dishes and the desserts are equal to any on offer in a french pattiserie. The only slight drawback was the vast amount of bugs on the landing walls when we left our room to go to dinner. The hotel is very open plan, bats fly in and out of the lounge. Monkeys freely roam the balconys, they are very entertaining but it is a problem if you want to sit out on your balcony, and you have to make sure doors are kept shut and locked! Would we go back - most definitely.

A beautiful Hotel in the midts of nature”
I was staying with my girlfriend for two nights at Kandalama. The choice for the hotel was mostly made due to the interest in the architecture of Geoffrey Bawa. Its quite a big hotel in a very nice scenery with great designed rooms, friendly stuff and a extensive breakfast. There are two options for dinner, a buffet and a a la carte menu in a smaller, a bit more upscale setting. The food is quite good in comparison with other esthablishments in Sri Lanka - not top notch though. The hotel is quite secluded, off the town of Dambulla: so you need a driver or bus, which you will need anyway traveling in this area. I recommend Kandalama to everyone that travels in Sri Lanka and has the spare money to spend some time at this very nice place - recommend to at least stay there for two nights or more to benefit from what the hotel and the area has to offer.

Iconic, green jewel”
This hotel was really a highlight of our trip in Sri Lanka. It is built in an amazing location cuddled in a rock formation over-looking a reservoir. Hotel Staff are all friendly and professional, and got things done even with some big tour groups in the hotel when we were there. Breakfast was plentiful at a restaurant with a great view. Monkeys and Squirrels are hopping about, and our 5yrs-old had a great fun watching them. It is a bit confusing reaching the hotel if you are not part of an organized tour and especially arriving after dark. There are not may signs along the way, and they are not written Heritance Kandalama. I think some said “Aitken Spence Hotel” (to be confirmed).

Totally Amazing!”
We 4 friends and 2 kids have booked 2 nights staying, and had to extend one more night, just didn't want to leave that place. We are in love with Heritance Kandalama like crazy! It has everything we want, and even more! food is excerlent, location and design worth every designer to learn and visit, it's the master piece of Geoffrey Bawa. The management concept of Recycling is very successful. Surely we will be back again.

Superb, stunning, breathtaking.”
We had an excellent time in Heritance Kandalama Hotel. Designed by Geoffray Bawa, it is without hesitation perhaps one of the most beautiful and remarkable hotels in the world. Everything is spatious, tasteful, well thought. The food is more than excellent. Not all members of the staff are as friendly, but we didn't mind. Go to see this hotel, it is an unforgettable experience.
