Amaya Lake hotel stay ”
It was a good stay even though it was generally at nights and then for breakfast, we were out the whole day practically. Even though its considered an Echo friendly resort I was not too happy at having insects crawling out the space where the bathtup tap was fixed (there is space as it was not properly closed) while my daughter of 9 was having a bath. it was pretty scary for my daughter, who is not used to such insects nor the ants we found in the toilets and in the room. The outdoor lighting too is not sufficient at nights for travel from one area of the hotel to the other and in this case from the dining area, or the swimming pool to the rooms along the paths and we ended using the lights from our mobiles. I later found out that we could have used the buggies for transfer. Other than that, we enjoyed the trip and the two nights stay at the Amaya Lake hotel was very enjoyable, as from the hotel we travelled to Dambulla town, Sigiriya rock area, we also hired a jeep and travelled to Minneriya national park to see the elephants. It was an awesome experience watching around 100 elephants at the park.

Connect with Nature”
Being a Honeymoon Trip, privacy, calm and serenity were our top priorities in Sri Lanka and Amaya Lake Hotel, Kandalama fit the bill perfectly. It is luxury coupled with tranquility and serenity and can definitely lead one to a state of meditative trance. The cottages were placed quite decently at sufficient distance from one another with affluent interiors and wood paneling. bathrooms were clean and the Jacuzzi was quite big. The biggest positive is early morning or evening walk by the Amaya Lake. The only downside shall be the food which even though had multiple options, but was a bit bland in taste.

Quality hotel in serene environment”
i stayed less than 24 hours at amaya lake, as a stopover between sigiriya and travel to the south. i wish i had longer. for those who are light sleepers, you will find the amaya lake very quiet. the room was very comfortable, and clean. a very large pool. seemed like a great place to relax. the one downside i found was the spa. there was no ac in the spa, and the massage beds were wooden slabs - i wound up canceling my appointment, as lying on a wooden slab in the heat did not sound very relaxing and soothing.

Amaya Lake hotel is simply perfect”
I had a fantastic stay at Amaya Lake. When you travel solo - one might want to have space to wander, spa, pool - view and a friendly atmosphere. The chelles are scattered through the woods, and you might think is just a chelle - it is a luxury chelle with a jacuzzi decorated with rose petals (staff did a great job) - nice little living and your bedroom. Staff could not have been more attentive and friendlier. Food is ok - good variety - nothing sticks in my mind as WOW - but overall I enjoyed. You can walk through the park and see little animals - like lizards, squirrels, monkeys - you feel in the nature. But then you enter the spa - and you are in luxury. Overall I would recommend this hotel as a must! I got great deals on Agoda - about 50% and paid around 90 USD including tax for a villa to myself! Bravo Amaya - you rock by the Sighiriya Rock! By the way - use this as a base if you want to do the Rock and temples around and even Polonarruwa: it only takes about 1 hr to drive to the ancient city. One tip: you can only stay in Amaya if you travel by car - it is quite isolated.

Absolutely lovely hotel with great ambience”
My friends and I have travelled to Sri Lanka for a 8D7N trip, and had stayed 1 night at Amaya Lake Hotel. This hotel was the best amongst all the hotels we had stayed throughout the journey. The room was very clean with comfortable beds, and the breakfast was extremely nice. The hotel even has a very big and nice pool. Unfortunately, due to time constraint, we were unable to use the facilities. The hotel offers free wifi but during our stay, there was some problem with their wifi. However, the staff were very professional and polite when we enquired about the wifi problem. Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Amaya Lake Hotel. Well done!

Outstanding location”
Our stay at Amaya Lake hotel was outstanding. Set in incredible grounds overlooking Amaya Lake, all sights are a short tuk tuk drive away. Our Deluxe room was large, newly decorated with a beautiful bathroom and large bath tub. The large pool area is stunning and the grounds are fantastic for those who like to walk and explore. The buffet was very good value for money and we enjoyed our 4 day stay here. Great value for money. Excellent for both couples and families.

Delightful lakeside spot”
We stayed here on our first night in Sri Lanka and after a long and hot day of travelling it was an absolute delight to be able to have our first night in such a lovely spot on the lake with lots of wildlife. We enjoyed the pool and the rooms were great with an enormous bed, seperate lounge area and big bathroom. We were exhausted so had room service for dinner which was tasty but could not compare to the amazing breakfast buffet. We stuck to the Sri Lankan food and it was a great introduction to the tasty food we had to look forward to during our trip. The location was perfect too as it was close to Dambulla and Sigiriya.

A great stay”
Amaya Lake is situated in a beautiful area with views of the lake. The staff were friendly and helpful and supplied us with the hotel minibus for a day trip. The driver was excellent and planned the day very well and made sure we saw all the important sites. We stayed for 3 nights but could have easily stayed for more. It is a very relaxing hotel and you couldn't want for more. The breakfast is buffet style and very good with good choices and the restaurant has a good menu and not expensive for dinner.

Great hotel to use as a base for cultural triangle”
This is a lovely hotel. The staff were brilliant, room was cleaned twice a day, nice big pool, nice buffet etc. i would recommend this hotel. We used it as a base for the cultural triangle and it was an excellent spot for that. There is not much around the hotel, but Kandalama lake is very peaceful and we found that being busy with activites during the day meant we were happy to have a quiet night in the hotel bar/restaurant. The only downside is that transport is overpriced if arranged through the hotel. we paid mich more for cars to the attractions than we had for much further distances. overall, a great hotel, but its worth arranging a driver for a few days before you get there.

Open and pleasant lakeside retreat”
this hotel was great value for money. it is a lovely hotel at a decent price with huge villas with nice bathrooms and sitting room (though the 'couches' are just hard benches). the bar area was really nice and had intermittent wi fi. the restaurant buffet was good (though don't even think about trying to go a la carte -- there is a reason everyone eats from the buffet we discovered after our first bad experience). the breakfast was good and varied. the lake area is beautiful. much better value than some of the other hotels in the area. we went for lunch at the heritance kandalama which is a beautiful place and worth going for lunch, but amaya was a lot cheaper and really nice too. definitely the best deal we had in sri lanka. it is a bit out of town so you need some transportation. i think they put the drivers up somewhere decent though so they like to take you there.

Holiday stay at Amaya August 15”
Quite honestly the best hotel I think we've ever stayed at. Lovely staff, not pushy, presumptuous or anything like that, just very good at their jobs. This is a seriously good hotel, it achieves the balance of being classy without any snobbery. Our children loved it... we loved it. The grounds teem with wildlife - the birdlife is great, from eagles and kites soaring over the lake, to countless colourful birds in the trees around the pool (orioles, minivets, babblers, mynas, sunbirds etc...). The food is excellent, lots of choice, great ice and fruit sculptures. The rooms are superb, it felt like home. If I come back to Sri Lanka, I'd try to stay at Amaya in every location.

Tranquil Retreat”
I was debating whether to book the standard/deluxe chalets or splurge on the luxury chalet. In the end, I booked the Luxury Chalet and it was worth every penny. The bath room is as big as the bedroom and the design of the whole chalet is very modern with nice wooden flooring and a big flat screen TV. The HBO reception was good and we caught up with a lot of movies. The resort has a sprawling ground and nested among trees. It is really peaceful and tranquil and has a nice view of the lake. If you are looking for a quiet retreat, this is definitely the place. It also has a nice pool and it was good to go for a dip after climbing the nearby cave temple or the Lion Rock. The only complaints I had were I got lots of mosquitos or insects bites as the repellents & patches did not seem to work; and the food was expensive and not very good. We stayed 3 nights at the resort and 2 of the days, we asked our driver to drive us to Heritance Kandalama Hotel to have lunch & dinner there. On the whole, it was a nice stay at Amaya Resort.

Superb location overlooking the Kandalama Weva ”
We used this hotel as a base to catch a balloon ride in the area. Unfortunately due to sudden adverse weather conditions this was cancelled. Having stayed in other hotels in the area and from reports of others my expectations were quite high. The layout and location of the hotel was superlative. This is a hotel for the nature lover who wants a to be as close to nature as one can get [other than camping]. If I was to mention a definite plus it would be the ultra friendly staff. One problem we faced was renovations to main reception and dining area's. The flooring was being re-laid and the management obviously thought pre Christmas was good time as any. The months after April would have been a better time for major renovation in my opinion. The buffets seemed to have a great spread but the "quality" of food wasn't on par with its competition across the other side of the lake. Overall all standards expected by a traveller with a child was met and exceeded in most cases. I highly recommend Amaya Lake to any traveller who wants a slice of nature with the mundane mix of pools and concrete.

Beautiful setting, but missing the details”
Ok- the Amaya Lake Hotel is located between Dambulla & Sigiriya, so we liked the location. The hotel grounds were also beautiful- pool, landscaping & main gathering area. The rooms are all (or most) little duplex bungalows, which have good layouts. Overall, this hotel is a good value, but there were a few drawbacks that made me wish I booked a different property. First, the staff’s attention to detail could be better. It took a long time to check in, then we were taken to a king room when we booked a twin. Usually not a big deal, but it was very late, it took several minutes to sort the issue & our replacement room seemed to be half a mile away. Wine selection at dinner was expensive and they only offer one wine by the glass. The buffet dinner was crowded, not very good & service was slow & unpleasant. I will admit breakfast was much better. Probably my biggest issue was the bathroom- not very clean. Anyhow, details were not quite up to par, but a good price.

good location, not so friendly staff”
The hotel is located right besides Kandalama lake, which gives it a spectacular view. A walk around the hotel is highly recommended. We also enjoyed the a la carte restaurant. It was one of the best meal we had compared to the other hotel food we had in Sri Lanka. However, the staff in the hotel is not so friendly especially the bellman. we didn't feel the warm welcome from the hotel.

beautiful property ”
i stayed in this hotel only for one night, but would have stayed much longer if i had the time. great property and value for money. rooms are actually small houses, beautifully decorated. if you are looking for a place to relax, this hotel will definitely do. you can take a walk within the property, all the way to amaya lake. food was fantastic - buffet breakfast included. it is located very close to the sigiriya rock.
